A final Quinnipiac poll ahead of the Iowa caucus finds Donald Trumpâs support steady at 31 percent while Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)97% has dropped 5 points in the last week.
Cruz currently has the support of 24 percent of likely caucus-goers, according to the poll. Last week, his support was 29 percent.
The poll also shows a late increases in support for third-place Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)79% . The Florida senator has 17 percent support, up from 13 percent last week.
Trumpâs current 7-point lead in the poll, released on the day of the Iowa caucus, seems to come completely from the drop in support for Cruz. The poll anticipates a big surge in turnout for the caucus. Trump has an 18-point lead among first-time caucus-goers.
The surge in turnout anticipated by Quinnipiac would change greatly the composition of the electorate voting Monday. If the Quinnipiac assumption on turnout is correct, only around 40 percent of caucus-goers would be evangelicals, a dramatic drop from the previous two caucuses.

And I would be telling them that they are anti-establishment, and that they should line up with a different anti-establishment candidate OR Huck or Santy, who, as you say, aren’t going anywhere.
I don’t want to give them away. I want them to stay anti-establishment.
My goal is blowing up the GOP-E. It is not to achieve conservative nirvana.
Propaganda works on WAAAA...Y too many members here. Yeah, that’s why all the One World Order people all HATE Ted Cruz!
I see much of the establishment hooking their wagons to Trump. Some are saying anyone but Trump while others are quietly backing Trump.

NO, no no. In the next few days, spurilous stories targeting Trump shall include:
Trump cheated on Melania, The Guardian story by Andrew Roberts
Trump discriminates against woman, suit filed, NYT story (Mom is GOPe Iowa Republican Party)
These “news stories” are going to be placed left and right. Last 24 hours is just the beginning.
Last news cycle against Cruz, look to Tampa Florida or Florida ties to find the push and the money for distribution
there will be no heavy snow.
It is 25% chance starting at 8 and increasing to 57% at 10 and not 100% until after midnight.
Besides, snow will keep OLD people off the roads, and they are probably Cruz supporters.
Trump will, you won’t!
We’ll see who was right.
Goldman loves Cruz!
First, the GOP must die.
Everything else comes after that.
No, the reason Santorum’s campaign is dead is b/c he left the fight too soon in 2012. If Ted loses, he must stay in the race, fighting against Trump’s destructive progressivist ideas until the end. People will never contribute to him again if he drops too quickly.
Wait a minute, I am an older person and I am for Trump and will crawl to the polls if necessary. :-)
Others are looking for a ‘conservative messiah’ who is pure and spotless in his conservatism.
Me, I want to blow something up.
And that something is the GOP-E.
In fact, I think THEY are the one’s responsible for the infighting among the conservative anti-establishment candidates.
You’re not that old if you can still crawl. :>)
Don’t worry Goldman will still loan him money.
Wrong. We must ultimately defeat the GOP-E, not destroy the party. If the GOP completely dies, we will see a string of Obamas as far as the eye can see. If this is your wish, go for it, Mariner.
We’re fighting different battles.
I want to defeat the GOP-E, and you want a pure conservative. Although, I wouldn’t mind someone being a buffer that keeps Jeb or Rubio from bringing together a lot of votes.
Where we both need to be careful is in sending this to the convention and letting the GOP-E decide. You know who they’ll pick, and it won’t be Cruz or Trump.
I am worried about America, and not Ted. You sound like a guy who likes to be with the perceived winner, not the guy who can reverse course with a rational plan.
Big deal. Trump’s lead is based on winning 40-22 among first-timers. Cruz wins among previous caucusers. Registration data shows the first-timers aren’t likely to show up: So far, they haven’t bothered to register. Yes, they can register today. But based on the fact they HAVEN’T, this looks so much like the huge lead Romney had among first-timers.
Tonight... ð
I’m a woman, but you are very perceptive. /s
Not very good news to gloat over on what, until Trump started running, used to be a conservative website. Among “very conservative” voters, Cruz wins 43-25.
Among moderate and liberal voters, Trump wins 35-6.
