Poll: Donald Trump Holds Iowa Lead, Ted Cruz Fades (Trump 31, Cruz 24)
Breitbart ^ | 1 Feb 16 | Flynn

Posted on 02/01/2016 6:21:43 AM PST by xzins

A final Quinnipiac poll ahead of the Iowa caucus finds Donald Trump’s support steady at 31 percent while Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)97% has dropped 5 points in the last week.

Cruz currently has the support of 24 percent of likely caucus-goers, according to the poll. Last week, his support was 29 percent.

The poll also shows a late increases in support for third-place Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)79% . The Florida senator has 17 percent support, up from 13 percent last week.

Trump’s current 7-point lead in the poll, released on the day of the Iowa caucus, seems to come completely from the drop in support for Cruz. The poll anticipates a big surge in turnout for the caucus. Trump has an 18-point lead among first-time caucus-goers.

The surge in turnout anticipated by Quinnipiac would change greatly the composition of the electorate voting Monday. If the Quinnipiac assumption on turnout is correct, only around 40 percent of caucus-goers would be evangelicals, a dramatic drop from the previous two caucuses.

I love liberty as much as the next guy, and I think Cruz, Trump, or Carson are the only ones likely to attack the establishment in some way, shape, or form. I want the establishment blown up. I don’t really care how.

I hope it gets over soon no matter who it is.

Obviously, the numbers do say it is Trump most likely to close the deal fast.

If Cruz loses, the story of the steep decline of America will continue. But, the good news is that the next President will be someone who both likes and works well with Chuck U. Schumer and Nancy Pelosi.

I think Carson’s numbers will split for a combination of the non-establishment candidates with former religious conservative headliners Huckabee and Santorum.

Huckabee and Santorum probably won't make it past super-Tuesday. In the rare instances where he discusses coherent policy rather than giving a pep talk, Carson's political positions are pretty much GOP establishment boilerplate with some religious talk mixed in. His more fervent Evangelical supporters may go to Cruz, the rest will probably line up behind Rubio, Jeb, etc. He's a faux anti-establishment candidate, much like Fiorina.

YUGE numbers for Trump.

I am going to be looking for some pre-caucus indicators, if the networks
provide them.

It will be telling if people start lining up at Caucus locations early,
similar to lining up for Trump rally’s early.

This could indicate a big Trump night.
So we might get an indicator early on.

If in spite of that Trump wins, I think it’s over. Iowa plays to Cruz’s strengths. He can still do well in SEC and Trump could flame out, but both happening are unlikely.

I agree with you Uncle Miltie re:Cruz. Iowa is the state that lines up with Cruz the best. The Rubio consultant class have been working non-stop behind the scenes to get Cruz, so they can move Rubio into 2nd place.

GOPe money is shifting to Rubio.

It’s looking like this was all a giant head-fake. Establishment will end up getting their guy, and everyone will wonder how it happened.

I love Dr. Carson, but he is too green. Trump will be a disaster with court appointments, he doesn’t understand the inevitable collapse under socialized medicine, he will bludgeon property owners, and he will do little to uproot the entrenched bureaucracy.
Only Cruz will be solid on every count. He is our only chance to reverse course.

7 points is meaningless, particularly if heavy snow keeps Trump’s first timers away. Obama overcame a 17 point deficit.

Man, that is one whopper of a rationalization.
The Democrats cannot be schmoozed, b/c to them it is all about power and control. Trump will not change this truth.

Yes, that’s it. Thank you for introducing this thread to your well thought out explanation of why Trump is leading in every national poll and now leading in most every Iowa poll.

What’s next on your clairvoyant predictions and discoveries list?
