Donald Trump’s Fox Debate Boycott And The Ridiculous Fox News Response
theconservativetreehouse.com ^ | January 27 | Sundance

Posted on 01/27/2016 5:11:09 AM PST by Helicondelta

Many broadcast hours and column inches are sure to be used today and tomorrow regarding the decision by Donald Trump to skip the Fox News debate in Iowa.

Predicatively 90% of those reports will most likely circle around a Donald Trump -vs- Megyn Kelly narrative. Obviously that aspect will be the preferred hook used by Fox News to avoid sunlight; it is also profoundly wrong.

Megyn Kelly, and her sidekick Chris Stirewalt are the visible symptom, not the actual underlying issue. Their partnered 'too-cute-by-half schtick' has been ongoing for several months, including the coordinated antics at the last debate, and in the weeks leading up to the last debate; but again, they are the symptom - not the real issue.

However, it's also more than a little hypocritical for the same republican voices who were shouting at republican nominees in 2011/2012, for walking into traps with CNN's Candy Crowley and ABC's George Stephanopolous, to now be clutching their pearls when 2016 republican frontrunner Donald Trump recognizes the construct in Fox News and avoids it.

Chris Stirewalt is the advance guy, the Fox political debate contractor/producer who is in Iowa setting up the parameters. He's the scout organizing the Muslim activist to confront Donald Trump. He's the guy organizing the Mexican immigrant to question/antagonize the intended target, Trump. Stirewalt puts the agenda script together - Ms. Kelly, Mr. Wallace and Mr. Baier execute the production.

At this point there is NO downside to kicking the media in the groin. None.

All the rest are the puppets in the dog & pony show for Fox. just how many pony shows do we need - it just for the network ratings. I hope goes to ABC or CBS and boosts their ratings over the debate and that will show the power of the man.

Republicans should have boycotted the debates for years due to bias. But they are cowards, and were afraid to do it!

To Trump’s people, the media is the enemy. Fox didn’t know they are the media? They can’t win this.. they stepped in it big time. Anything they do to Trump will backfire. It’s turned personal for some of them at Fox.. they aren’t looking at it rationally. The rest have to follow suit or lose their jobs. But the media is what the people out here are fighting against... and this rebellion was a long time coming.. it’s now here and growing.

Agreed. The bid for being a commissariat has failed miserably.

I think Cotton, you hit the nail on the head. Libby is hypocritical to his/her core. A really really nasty piece of work.

Precisely.

It is a breath of fresh air to see someone stand up to the dishonest media.

Fox screwed up the first debate, so now, they are going to use the same team-again?

Plus some Google social media retards to ambush Trump?

Every candidate should have stood up and said forget it.

But, that would have taken courage and leadership.

So far, only one candidate has exhibited that—consistently.

Trump.

“When has it ever happened?”

Reagan the presumptive leader skipped an Iowa debate and lost Iowa to Bush.

Keeping in-mind Fox News Channel is run by Roger Ailes, former National Republican Chairman, and we are four days away from voting in Iowa.

There is no candidate, absolutely no one in this presidential race who has the gravitas to simply walk away from a live debate stage on Fox News Channel.
Say what you want about Donald Trump -some of you love him; some of you loathe him. But Trump’s confidence is why so many Americans support him. I think he has made it perfectly clear, no one will push him around -not even Roger Ailes

THE KELLY FILE for July 27, 2015
Kelly File, The [Fox News] (USA) - July 27, 2015

EXCERPTS

Joining me now, FOX News digital politics editor Chris Stirewalt who is intimately involved in the debate process, as I can attest firsthand working with you at length and already today, we had a lengthy meeting doing one of the most important things you can do in the presidential process which is to come up with questions for these guys and potentially gal, who will stand on this stage this time in ten days.

(snip)

STIREWALT: I gleaned that Donald Trump says a lot of stuff. I gleaned that Donald Trump when he talks about the border, when he talks about all the stuff. When they get on that debate stage, it’s going to be very hard. You can’t fact check it, you can’t do it in real time.

KELLY: Uh-mm.

STIREWALT: Because he makes these claims, like I have journalists call me and say that they’re sorry and that they were wrong. Which journalists? Who? When? Where? Who is this?

KELLY: Uh-mm.

STIREWALT: And he just keeps moving through. He rolls like a free train. And the question is, for him, in a debate, in a one-minute increment of time, with you pressing him, with Bret pressing him, with Chris pressing him, is he going to be able to just bulldoze through or is he going to have to fill in the blanks?

KELLY: My own impression is, if you dodge and weave enough, the viewers will hold it against you. The anchors — the viewers need to understand the debate we have far less opportunity than, say, here on THE KELLY FILE to interrupt the candidate and make them answer the questions we ask, but there are rules that govern this debate. But we’re going to try. And if you continue to dodge, they know, they know when you dodge. So, my advice to these candidates is, don’t make me hurt you.

Why would Trump intentionally walk into a trap? He is right to be wary as they allow anyone with a pulse on the stage. For Heavens sake Kasich is on stage as well as Bush and they along with the four other cellar dwellers don't have support that adds up to double digits. \

There is very little upside for Trump going to the debate ands allowing both the other candidates as well as the moderators lob hand grenades at him for a couple hours.

I wonder if CNN carries his Town Hall even live and what the ratings will be without Trump.

In the past debates, did we learn anything about what they plan to do if they become President? Or did we see a ridiculous show of asking really dumb and insignificant questions to start a fight or make news for themselves. They were not debates, they were childish attempts to take out the one they all were aiming at. The bullseye was always on Trump.. Fox wanted to be the one who got him. Fox did this to themselves. We wanted someone to stand up to the media. Trump just did.
