This is Ted Cruz's Plan For the Supreme Court
Fortune ^ | December 2, 2015 | Ben Geier

Liberals won't like it.

If Ted Cruz is elected president, he has big plans for the Supreme Court -- namely, picking extremely conservative candidates to fill any vacancies among the nine justices.

In an interview with Bloomberg, the Senator and former solicitor general from Texas said that Republicans are generally bad at picking nominees for the high court, and that he'd be different.

"Unlike many of the other candidates, I will be willing to spend the capital to ensure that every Supreme Court nominee that I put on the court is a principled judicial conservative," Cruz said.

As solicitor general, Bloomberg notes, Cruz argued in front of the court on behalf of his state.

Cruz specifically called out Chief Justice John Roberts, appointed by George W. Bush, and Anthony Kennedy, appointed by Ronald Reagan, as bad picks. Roberts has gotten a lot of flack among conservatives in recent years for voting to uphold Obamacare, while Kennedy was castigated by the right for writing the opinion this year to legalize gay marriage.

The next president will likely have a few vacancies to fill. Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Antonin Scalia, and Anthony Kennedy will all be over 80 years old by election day, while Stephen Breyer will be 78.

So how would Cruz find truly conservative justices? He said he'd look for candidates with "a long paper trail as principled conservative jurists." This means jurists who've actually made decisions, rather than the sometimes more politically palatable candidates without as much of a record.

I’m not so sure he is Pro Abortion any longer. I am also not judging the best presidential candidate on that issue. The fight against Roe vs Wade has been going on since the decision was made and will be ongoing for some time to come. I do not believe a social issue such as this is the most important factor in picking someone, at this point in time when we ae underwater economically, to be the criteria. I much prefer someone with the skills to bring jobs and prosperity back to America. On that factor, Trump trumps the entire rest of the candidates.

Donald Trump told Mark Halperin yesterday that his sister, a federal judge, would be a phenomenal Supreme Court justice.

Maryanne Trump Barry came up in my book The Party of Death for writing one of those heated judicial decisions in favor of giving constitutional protection to partial-birth abortion. She called a New Jersey law against it a desperate attempt to undermine Roe v. Wade. It was, she wrote, based on semantic machinations, irrational line-drawing, and an obvious attempt to inflame public opinion instead of logic or medical evidence. It made no difference where the fetus was when it expired.

Yup, a person who enthusiastically defends partial birth abortion is the kind of justice he would appoint to the the USSC. Wow.

Trump on pro-abortion sister and Supreme Court

And no one thinks that a naturalized citizen is natural born.....

Oh yes they do, and that includes most Cruz supporters, not all but most. There are those that support Cruz whether they think he is NBC or not, justifying their view by saying if it was good enough for Obama then ........

Johnson added: “Eleanor was never a citizen of Canada, and she could not have been under the facts or the law. In short, she did not live in Canada long enough to be a Canadian citizen by the time Cruz was born in 1970:
..........................................................
If this statement is true, how did Cruz’s father obtain Canadian Citizenship? They moved to Canada together, stayed there eight years and came back to America together. Since Cruz was 4 when they returned, 8-4=4 and you stipulated Canadian law REQUIRES 5 years of residency.

We don’t know for sure who Trump will pick, but we know he holds in very high regard the approach to the Constitution of ultra-leftist Lawrence Tribe, who Trump keeps quoting so favorably on the subject.
....................................................
If you would read Cruz’s letter recommending Roberts for Chief justice, you will find him citing the “ultra-leftist” Lawrence Tribe as favoring Roberts. It was part of his argument for Roberts.

I prefer Trump on the most important issues, The Invasion of Illegals and the ECONOMY. Trump will stop the invasion while others have talked about it for ages and done nothing. He will insist that the LAW be OBEYED and ill not tolerate the end runss now being played by the Cheap Labor Express.
On the matter of the ECONOMY, jobs will come back to the US!

I am saying The son of a Cuban, born in Canada to an American mother is not what the founders would have thought of as a natural born citizen of the USA.

In fact until 1934 Ted Cruz would not have even been considered a citizen of the USA. A natural born citizen requires no laws to make them a citizen they just are. Cruz citizenship depents on naturalization act passed by Congress. He was naturalized at birth via Congressional legislation. He is NOT a natural born citizen if we follow original intent.

The link I sent was from August 2015. Trump IS for abortions for rape/incest babies. And how can abortion not be the #1 concern of all Americans?

Roe v Wade is the decision, some 43 years back, which has deformed our great nation [note tagline]. Those are not my words but the words of Blessed [saint-in-September] Mother Teresa of Calcutta. And if you don't think she knew what she was talking about, read her speech (to the Clintons) during the National Prayer Breakfast in 1994.

http://www.priestsforlife.org/brochures/mtspeech.html

She is spot-on on every single detail. How can we put #1 at jobs and prosperity (as you mention) ignoring the babies and mothers, when we're killing our young at such a grand rate? Take a listen to Mother Teresa. She's a whole lot brighter than Donald Trump when it comes to what Christ wants [for and] of his peoples.

They lived in Canada a total of 8 years. They left when Ted was 4. Ted was born 4 years after they arrived in Canada.

Can you not do math?

“But, as a jurist, Judge Roberts’s approach will be that of his entire career: carefully, faithfully applying the Constitution and legal precedent. He is a mainstream judge, respected across the ideological spectrum. Thus, he’s earned praise from liberal icons such as Harvard Law Professor Larry Tribe, and Chicago Law Professor Cass Sunstein, as well as from Clinton Solicitors General Walter Dellinger and Seth Waxman, and Carter and Clinton Counsel Lloyd Cutler, the latter two of whom both described Roberts as a man of “unquestioned integrity and fair-mindedness.” As Professor Tribe observed Tuesday night, “[i]t is clear that in the absence of some serious objection that is not now visible . . . he is very likely to be confirmed.”
...........................................................

The above is from Ted Cruz’s letter supporting John Roberts. Seems he has no hesitation in supporting Professor Tribe’s position. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

BTW, in what state was Trump’s mother born?
.................................................
Trump’s mother was a naturalized AMERICAN citizen years before Trump was born. Your snarky remark is a leaky bucket. It won’t hold water.

Cruz’s mother being a natural born citizen does not make him a natural born citizen. BOTH parents citizens AND born on the soil, according to Article II, Section 1, Clause 5

Trumps mother was a NATURALIZED citizen before he was born. According to original intent BOTH parents had to be American CITIZENS, not natural born citizens, just American Citizens and the child born on American soil.

I guess you’ve forgotten my original point - that being to speculate about just how consistent can you judge someone to be when s/he hasn’t held to his/her opinions for very long? It’s a fair question, one that you likely pose yourself when encountering someone new. It’s the issue that YOU raised when you told another posting here that you “consistently” relate the “truth”.

But it’s okay, an awful lot of people here at FreeRepublic are willing to give even those running for the highest office in the land a pass when it comes to the question of consistency of their positions...so, I guess I get where you’re coming from.

I would like to see his American birth certificate or Naturalization papers. WHY won’t he show them. We have seen his Canadian birth certificate, why not his American one? IF he has one.

Can you get an American birth cert if you were born in Canada? I thought you only had one birth cert...but I admit I don’t know much about official records
