Some news to report out of Las Vegas where Donald Trump sat down with Field & Stream magazine for an interview during the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s annual SHOT Show.

First up, the GOP front-runner came out against letting states control public lands now run by the federal government saying, “I don’t like the idea because I want to keep the lands great, and you don’t know what the state is going to do."

The media told us in 2008 that only McCain could win. When he had pretty much wrapped up them republican nomination, the media then told us he was crazy.

At this point, fear is an excuse Finny. There’s always feat. Every election. They cave in to it. Every election.

It’s always the same scripted story. This (insert year here) is the most important election ever and if we don’t get this right then it’s over. And if you won’t abandon everything you said for at least the last 4 years, then you hate America and love (insert candidate here.

There is never a right time or a better time. It always is ‘next time’.

Some people have spent their entire lives as conservatives except the day it matters most. Election day. Then they invariably complain about what they elected. You know thats a fact Finny. Always was and always will be.

We hear all the never again and see the chest beating for the years between and then POOF! right back to the same thing. Everyone is scares and has their own extra special excuse that absolves them.

Bull. They want liberalism. Since most of us never met, we only actually ‘KNOW’ one thing about them. Their actions. And when their actions are to say one thing one day and do the opposite on election day, it’s ironclad as to what they are.

If you or anyone else can show where one word of the above is verifiably false, I would like to see it. Because it’s all 100% the truth and it’s not pretty. But it’s the truth regardless.

Does not matter WHO it is. If you say one thing and do another, you aren’t what you claim to be. Period.

You are right about fear being an excuse.

Oh, man, this one is priceless -- well done and BUMP:

Anyone here think state governments are less corrupt and more efficient than the federal government?

As a resident of the People's RepuliK of Illinois, I'm damn' sure glad you asked that question.

Is the State Government of Illinois less corrupt than the Federal Government?

HELL NO! The Fed's ain't got nuffin' on Illinois or Chicago when it comes to corruption!

I do however want all FEDERAL POWER that has not been EXPRESSLY granted by the States to the Federal Government returned BACK TO THE STATES!

At the end of the day, it's going to be a lot easier to drive 2.5 hours to Springfield IL or Chicago IL and hang all the corrupt, treasonous bastards than it will be for me to drive to Washington DC to do the same.

I want my corrupt politicians close enough that we the people can "reach out and touch them" easily, if you know what I mean.

It’s just the truth. I’m sure I’m not the first to say it and I won’t be the last.

Read excellent background on why the Feds still control most of the west here. This apparently was a big issue during the 1800s which stalled out. It should be revisited. If the states can manage swamps in Florida and mountains in Appalachia they can managed deserts and mountains in the West. The true challenge is to sell them off and apply the proceeds to the pay down the national debt rather than pay for additional social spending. We may want to fix the latter dynamic before fixing the former.

Interesting take from 2011 you linked. I read recently a blogger claiming he’d gone to a Trump even and they were only accepting pre-screened questions for Donald to answer, but he’d gone to a Cruz event and Ted took any and all questions from the audience. Neither use teleprompters and both make fun of those who do, but screening questions and only allowing those calculated to make the candidate look good would be a different sign of candidate weakness. I’ve been to a Cruz event. There were no teleprompters. Not only were questions not screened, but an odd, clumsily asked, question made national news when Cruz’s answer knocked it out of the park. Trump has certainly had home run responses. Those in debates I trust weren’t scripted. But I don’t know personally whether his event answers were somewhat scripted by his staff chosing the questions he’d answer. Can any of the Trump fans who may know tell me whether questions for Trump must be pre-submitted and thus get screened?

“...The reason you bear the burden of persuasion...”

Bull Butter!! Are you *seriously* asserting that Trump did *not* initially say he was in favor of assault rifle bans; That Trump did *not* say that he supported abortion? That Trump did *not* say that he supported the Kelo decision? Need I go on with his history? And then just today, are you *seriously* asserting that Trump did *not* say he was reaching out to the party establishment to cut deals with them (not that he had any interest in fighting them); That Trump did *not* say that he preferred the big fed-govt over the states?

Seriously? It’s *my* burden of proof to prove what Trump himself has said? Believe it or not, *I* don’t speak for him... I truly don’t.

So those are not *my* words and I’m not seeking to convince anyone. I’m just amused at the hypocracy and how many ways Trump supporters can twist logic and reason to cover for his own statements and positions. All I’m doing is repeating *Trumps* words and positions that he has held. If you don’t like it, your argument is with Trump, not me. The fact he enjoys the cult of personality that surrounds him does not change his words, now does it? But it sure says something about his supporters though, does it not?

Like I said, how can Trump supporters *NOT* trust their own eyes and ears each time he (consistently) demonstrates his “NYC-Values” center-left political philosophy? It’s what he grew up with. It’s what he knows best. It is what he consistently demonstrates as his *FIRST INSTINCT* when asked about a given issue. We should not be surprised at it, yet Trump supporters rationalize it away here on FR daily - illogically or otherwise - in order to make peace with themselves, I guess. That’s ya’lls burden to bear, not mine.

Bottom line - in order to have a discussion, it requires the Trump side at least *pretend* to be intellectually honest. Clearly, you would rather avoid that conversation. It’s not my burden of proof to provide provenance of Trumps very own, *well-known* words and positions. If you want to deny the obvious, there is nothing anyone could do to penetrate that “Trump-Criticism-Burka” you guys have tightly wrapped around your heads.

Good luck with your candidate. I await his next center-left position that he reveals every few days (if he stays true to form) and how you guys will rationalize it.

“...Such sublime eloquence!...”

It’s pretty apt *and* accurate when trying to penetrate Trumps “Cult-of-Personality”... You know, the one that would *still* adore him if he shot someone? (yeah, it was a joke - but to be funny, a joke needs an element of truth).

“First up, the GOP front-runner came out against letting states control public lands now run by the federal government saying...”

Holy hallelujah!

This is Trump’s populist side coming out. Not a good thing.

The good thing is that Mammon-worshipping so-called conservatives might get up off their fat, useless asses and start paying attention to property rights on the local, state and federal level.

I can’t tell you how many times property owners walked into the county office and bitched about high property taxes, zoning squabbles and unelected county land commissions ruling against their property interests.

I’d tell them that they ought to show up on occasion to a county board meeting. If Trump’s stupid statements can motivate idiot conservatives to get involved in local and state property issues, he has done a great service.

He said he didn’t want to give land to indigent states that would then sell it. It isn’t a ConLaw brouhaha it’s his opinion, which he’s allowed to have. Do you think an idiot state like Illinois wouldn’t sell any land given to them to give more to the government employees? New Mexico? Washington state ? Oregon?

WAKE UP, Trump first folks

Finny, I love you, but I've asked you before to stop pinging me to your negative commentary about Trump.

I've done my own due diligence regarding the two leading candidates. Based upon their relative strengths and weaknesses, I choose Trump.

End of story. I'm at peace with my choice and my mind will not be changed.

Please save the electrons.

Since the con men and idiots at the Federal level started their careers at the local and state level, almost surely not.

Our Natianal Parks are a great heritage. BLM lands - well, there is some room for negotiation.

The question is whether the ranchers who can't or won't pay grazing fees on BLM and/or National Forest land would really be able to buy the land at market value if it were privatized. Chances are that they wouldn't in most cases, so people like the Bundy family are just blowing smoke.
