In their editorial, National Review editors put it this way:
There are understandable reasons for his eminence, and he has shown impressive gut-level skill as a campaigner. But he is not deserving of conservative support in the caucuses and primaries. Trump is a philosophically unmoored political opportunist who would trash the broad conservative ideological consensus within the GOP in favor of a free-floating populism with strong-man overtones.
Paraphrasing a line of scripture from 1 Timothy, Erickson writes this:
We should not put a new conservative in charge of conservatism or the country, so that he does not become puffed up with conceit and fall into condemnation. Republicans have wandered in the wilderness already by letting leaders define conservatism in their own image. Donald Trump needs more time and more testing of his new conservative convictions.
Beck gets specific, citing Trump's previous support for stimulus spending, bank bailouts and auto bailouts as reasons why his conservative credentials are suspect:
When conservatives desperately needed allies in the fight against big government, Donald Trump didn't stand on the sidelines. He consistently advocated that your money be spent, that your government grow, and that your Constitution be ignored. Sure, Trump's potential primary victory would provide Hillary Clinton with the easiest imaginable path to the White House. But it's far worse than that. If Donald Trump wins the Republican nomination, there will once again be no opposition to an ever-expanding government.

That says it all. . . .
If I have to choose between standing with the conservatives in this National Riview issue or the likes of Trent Lott, Mitch McConnell and Bob Dole, the choice is an easy one.
Trump is a big government progressive whose conservative roots are as deep as a puddle.
Are you saying Bret Bozell is RINO?
What’s YUGE is the number of people who have dropped their subscriptions to National Review in the past few years.
And you support a person who gave Hillary and Mitch McConnell money.
More like the second Tuesday in November. ;-)
Next thing you know, there will be a manifesto by a group of influential newspaper editors that says Trump should be sent packing. That’ll torpedo his campaign, for sure.
"(B)road conservative ideological consensus within the GOP" ...
The WHAT???
I suspect some conservatives have jumped on the Trump bandwagon because they think he has the best chances of beating the Felon.
But methinks this is the year to run the consistent constitutional conservative...someone who actually has a history of doing what he says he’s going to do...someone who actually has a consistent history of not supporting democrats...and someone who’s a good debater: Ted Cruz
People that make their scratch writing op/eds are here to order the plebs back to the plantation!
Considering how we ended up with Obama and gay marriage, it makes you wonder if it’s time to give these people the boot along with most of congress, because they seem to be next to worthless.
To see Dana and even Brent be lured by shiny objects to side with the likes of Bill Kristolnoch is disturbing on one hand...and enlightening on the other.
It shows how desperate the one-worlders and their allies are to hold their grip on power...as limited as it may be.
The tea-party folks now coming out against Trump must know...they must know...that in a normal election cycle...(no Trump/no Bernie), There is NO WAY IN HELL THESE PEOPLE AT NRO WOULD SUPPORT TED CRUZ. NO WAY!
It is all hands on deck from the establishment. They will stop at nothing to protect their oligarchy...at this point...an attack on Trump is the same as an attack on Cruz.
That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. A Trump/Cruz ticket would end them....on both sides of the establishment aisle.
Jedi.

“Are you saying Bret Bozell is RINO?”
Saw Bozell on FNC this morning. I wouldn’t call him a RINO. But I will call him a babbling idiot.
How many of them have signed the front of a paycheck?
Every Trump speech includes calling the media out for the tools they are.
Every time he calls for the cameras to pan the crowd and the producers don’t he proves what the crowd already knows and they love him for casting down challenge. It’s very effective FU MSM!
He’s smiling at the GOP reinforcing the reality of the uniparty on a daily basis.
It hardens his supporters hearts and resolve for battle.
And the fact that all the rallies remain on youtube and elsewhere proves he doesn’t need a media consultant, he’s ahead of the pack.
Apparently Brent is a RINO. The real Republicans agreed to support each other after the primary. I just can’t see how these folks can come back from this. The good news is the the can’t be used against Trump in the General because they are calling Trump a Democrat! ;-)
After Saint Cruz is elected will the First Lady have to commute to Goldman Sachs or will she be able to make her 1/2 million a year from the WH? Not that it should have any bearing on Saint Cruz.
Pray America wakes
They are perplexed because the tribe has spoken and not the way they had hoped for.
Little Billy Kristol is a conservative? Who knew?
