A quarter of Republicans think White House hopeful Ted Cruz is disqualified to serve as U.S. president because he was born in Canada to an American mother, a new Reuters/Ipsos poll found.Republican voters nearly mirror independents and the broader electorate in their belief that Cruz cannot hold the White House, with 27 percent of all voters and 28 percent of independents responding he should be disqualified.
Cruz, a U.S. Senator from Texas who was born to a U.S. citizen mother and Cuban father in Calgary, Alberta, has brushed aside the attacks about his eligibility as pure politics. But the questions could hamper his ability to rally the broad Republican support he would need to win the party's nomination to run for the presidency in November's election.
Only 47 percent of all voters surveyed responded that they thought Cruz is qualified to be president with regard to his citizenship, with 26 percent saying they were not sure.
The poll was taken from Jan. 7 to Jan. 14, before questions about Cruz's eligibility became one of the most heated moments of Thursday night's Republican primary debate.

Sorry, but laws, mere statutes, acts of Congress, do not supersede nature or the Constitution.
Cruz was made a citizen at birth solely by the provisions of the Immigration and NATURALIZATION Act of 1952, the law that was in effect at his birth, not by nature.

Before I created my business with international partners, I was an officer in a $400M corporation who reported direct to the Chairman on all M&A projects.
One attribute I noticed early in my career was ALL succesful senior managers ALWAYS surrounded themselves with high quality people - not "yes men".
Trump has been uber successful in creating & building his business and I guarantee you he did it with quality people - NOT "yes men".
That's why Trump will choose high quality leaders to help carry out his mission.

I agree 100%. AND I LIKE Cruz (though I like Trump better).
The bad thing about Cruz’s response was the bogus crap he spewed about Trump and his mother, which to me, seriously undermined the credibility of all the other things he said about NBC prior to that.
McCain got a declaratory judgement on the NBC issue and Cruz should too. If Cruz doesn’t, it would be dangerous for Trump to select Cruz as VP.
On the other hand, Cruz attacking New York may be even worse. A President is SUPPOSED to be the head of ALL parts and ALL people in our country. I’s been one of Obama’s great failings that he hasn’t done that. We don’t need a President who starts off by pointlessly and snidely attacking EVERYONE in an entire state indiscriminately. Even Obama was never that outrageous in showing his prejudices like that. We simply do not need a President who insinuates that ALL people in an entire state are somehow bad in some way.
Last night, I predicted the media would pick up on this and accelerate into full howl mode against Cruz about this, and to some degree I agree with them for a change. I really wish Cruz hadn’t done this.
I was a supporter of Cruz as recently as September, even made a donation.

Actually, even MORE fatal to Cruz was his unwarranted, indiscriminate attack on New Yorkers, and Cruz did this to himself, all by himself without any help from Trump.
If Trump makes it past the primary I will likely support him, but I have a grave concern that Trump will be changing his tune after the Republican primary.

I would agree with you on any other politician, in fact, we expect them to move to the center.
Trump is the only guy who seems really bullheaded enough to stay the course. Look at the heat he is taking on the Muslim ban. No support from a single person on the stage either. He just won’t back down.
People can disagree but he seems to be really dug in, that’s my impression of the guy. They are trying to ban him in England for Pete’s sake!

Some people on the debate thread seemed to like the idea of Trump/Gay’s Itch (Kasich). That, I could see.
While I don’t think it’s fair that he be excluded and feel that he should be allowed to run, Ted Cruz still has a growing controversy on his hands and needs to get this sorted out in court. There’s no amount of talk that will make this go away. I like Ted Cruz but he needs to sort this out.

I disagree. If Cruz can get the birther issue out of the way, I think he would be an excellent VP running mate. He really energizes evangelicals and has very strong positions. I still think a Trump/Cruz ticket could really win.

I can’t see that happening at all. She regularly attacks Trump and he personally insulted her face some time ago. I think it’s pretty safe to say they don’t like each other very much. Also, she seems to be an execrable campaigner, totally incapable of capitalizing momentum from strong debate performances. A few months ago, she had such a strong debate performance, it looked like she was really going somewhere, but before long she was nowhere.
This issue could also hurt Trump in the election. Trump is an anchor baby since his mother was a British citizen until 4 years AFTER Trump was born and only his dad was an American, which means that Trump is and has been eligible for dual citizen. He may not have ever claimed British citizenship, but has he ever renounce it? Anchor babies are not governed in the Constitution and are only allowed via a court decision, but that does not mean they are eligible for office under original Constitutional standards..

Ted was making Points for South Carolina and the Mid-west.. I am sure he scored big.. Id be surprised if he didn’t move to first place in SC and get big lead in Iowa!!!

Most Republicans didn’t know Cruz was foreign born until Trump attacked him. That was a smart move from Trump. It might cost Cruz a few votes.

I find your comment quite interesting since it appears, on FR Threads anyway, that Trump Supporters seem more likely to support Cruz if he was the Nominee than Cruz Supporters would be willing to Support Trump if he was the Nominee.
