Donald Trump has slipped to fourth place among Utah Republicans in the presidential contest following his controversial statements on Muslims being allowed into the U.S., a new UtahPolicy poll finds.
And among those who say they are âvery activeâ LDS, Trump has dropped considerably, finds Dan Jones & Associates in a new survey.

Mormonism is theologically much closer to Islam than it is to Christianity.
Agreed. Romney bought the gop run to the middle and kiss bambi.
For all who thing Utah will fall for Trump once he goes there, you forget Trump is all over the news. If I never see him it will be too soon. They like me would never take their kids to hear him swear and call names for an hour. Culture wars are losing to trumpees too.
Ridiculously stupid poll. Actually, Cruz, Carson, Trump or Rubio could all be winning given the MOE. Plus 15% and 11% other. As some have pointed out, they’re probably waiting for Milt.
BigEd. Post not directed at you. Just responded to you first.
Romney? Fight? Obama, where? After he won, or only during the campaign?
Romney's biggest problem was that he was fighting the same fight as Obama. He said one thing, but exhibited the opposite -- Romney wanted all the same government tyranny, from environmentalism and the gay agenda, to nationalized health care and tax-funded abortion, a different version of just as much government. Screw that.
See my tagline. A surprising number of people know it's true. And Romney lost. Amen.
I didn’t say Cruz was establishment, I said the establishment will use him to achieve their goals and they will. Doesn’t anyone here remember 2012 where we fought to get anyone but Romney? Each time they split the vote enough for Romney to pull ahead.
An endless loop, wash, rinse, repeat.
How lucky for Cruz to have the dang Mormons go Romney/ Establishment against TRUMP.
That Romney machine is not dead at the RNC and it isn’t dead in UTAH. Anybody But Trump, is right out of Ann’s cookbook and Mitt’s checkbook.
As in, whatever works to take out TRUMP.
You pretty much nailed it.
I don’t think Cruz is being used by the establishment (against who Trump?). I think people are just ticked off that two insurgent candidates have risen to the top this time.
I happen to believe Cruz is better for a couple of reasons #1) Cruz is and has always been a conservative Reaganite fighter, and is ~still~ more conservative than Trump on the issues.
#2) I think Cruz has the potential to draw in more voters over time, whether that’s true or not, and you may disagree, I have no idea the actual outcome.
These are just my primary reasons for supporting Cruz over Trump.

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponents ArgumentRegarding the title of the referenced article, please bear in mind that Trump is actually campaigning against the GOPe, the conservative front-end of the corrupt Washington cartel.
Utah will be interesting.
Everyone thinks Utah is soooo conservative but for the record, the only member of rep/senator of Utah who voted against the Omnibus was Mike Lee. All others Hatch, Chaffetz, Love and Stewart got in line to vote for that bill.
The LDS Church came out to condemn Trump on the immigration issue, especially since Latin countries provide many of their “new recruits” and temple growth. Senator Hatch is actually demented yet people here keep voting for him. Its disgusting.
Salt Lake City is loaded with RINOS but down south is truly conservative. The Rubio campaign grabbed our state speaker, Greg Hughes, who is actually awesome and Mia Love for the Rubio campaign committee.
In the general election, Trump would win here but in the primary, I am not sure. WE have few delegates anyway. The Northern Utah RINOS did not like our caucus system and mounted the “Count our Vote” campaign, which is to have our Republicans voted for in a primary rather than a caucus so they can get rid of Mike Lee.
The Salt Lake Tribune is a left wing paper run out of New York City. You just can’t make this stuff up.
The Romneys are cheap and they really don’t spend their own money.
<<< Cruz isnât establishment. “ >>>
Cruz is going to get ridden hard and put up wet, whether he likes it or not, by the ESTABLISHMENT, in order to stop TRUMP. They will raise him up only to take him out later and there are doubtful enough evangelicals left in the country to be of much help outside of the South, when they (the GOP) come for him.
This is how the splitter strategy works, and they will use Cruz as a splitter, and then raise up their GOP guy and crush the Cruz donors. It always works the same.
Wait a minute. We are talking about a 4 point difference between Trump at 11 and Cruz at 15 with a margin of error of 4. So Trump could be essentially tied with Cruz and 15 % are undecided. Hmmmmm!!!! Seems like this poll is a bit squishy.
Mormonism is basically a retarded religion with a self-proclaimed Prophet who compared himself to Muhammad, so them getting ticked off about comments regarding Muslims is not very surprising.
Here is what the church is mad at Trump about...it cuts into their business...http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865633350/Trumps-statements-on-Mexican-immigrants-are-incendiary-incorrect.html?pg=all
Here is where they skewer Trump on the Muslim issue
http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865643265/LDS-Church-releases-statement-on-religious-freedom-as-Donald-Trumps-Muslim-controversy-swirls.html?pg=all
And who runs Deseret News? The Church. If it is Cruz and Trump plus a RINO, the Church will tell them to go RINO.
Odd poll. 15%, 14%, 13% and 11% for the top four. Haven’t seen a grouping like that anywhere else.
Ok, I’m open minded. Where is Cruz more conservative than Trump? Actions?

How lucky for Cruz to have the dang Mormons go Romney/ Establishment against TRUMP.
But let’s start a list of people or groups that you have to throw under the bus because they disagree with Trump...
Evangelicals, Mormons, Rush Limbaugh (even though he spends large parts of his radio time defending Trump), Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, any writer or blogger that dares disagree with trump on anything, any pollster that doesn’t show Trump at 40+ percent and leading Cruz by 35, Benjamin Netanyahu, any person (especially Freepers) that gives info on Trump that shows his liberal beliefs that predate his “birthdate”...which was the day he declared he was a candidate for president, Pamela Geller, Ben Carson (a good man), Trump threw Scalia under the bus, anyone not supporting ethanol subsidies.
Feel free to add to the list as the election draws nearer....
