There is a myth circulating in the beltway. The myth is that bombastic business mogul Donald Trump can be taken down if only a Republican donor were to write a big enough check, if only a fellow GOP contender were to attack him with a vengeance or if only someone, somewhere concocted the right campaign-combustion cocktail.
Pundits, pollsters, reporters and donors have been racking their brains in war rooms and newsrooms from Washington to Iowa since the summer trying to understand the best way to explain and then to solve the problem of Trump. Underlying most of the scenarios gaming out the GOP primary has been the universal assumption that, if they really wanted to, the GOP "establishment" could step in and put a stop to Trump.
It's not to say that Trump is going to win the nomination. There is plenty more action ahead, candidates to drop out and Trump stumbles to be had, but an organized campaign by the establishment isn't likely to be his undoing.
The notion that the "establishment" or the party's "adults" ultimately control the process has been around for a lot longer than Trump, an artifact of an older political era, when backroom deals and convention wheeling and dealing among party stalwarts would produce, often messily, a nominee. But the myth has persisted, perhaps because it rarely gets held up to much critical scrutiny in its own right.
With just two months until the Iowa caucuses, it may be time to recognize the reality that the myth has been obscuring: No strategic intervention is going to stop Trump now.

"The guy is a phenomena. He has touched a nerve. To some extent, he is the anti-Obama, and he is really good at what he does," the bundler said on background so that he could speak freely about the state of the donor class. "
When he says things that piss of establishment, don’t they notice the voters are not in step with them?
Only Trump can stop Trump, and that ain’t gonna happen.
Get used to addressing The Donald as, Mr. President.
"If ya can't beat him, JOIN him!"
Sure they notice, but that doesn't factor into their thinking at all, seeing as how they consider they OWN us and our votes to begin with.
The self-appointed masters of the Grand Old Poofters think we're just having a childish temper tantrum, or a summer fling, and that we'll soon settle down and go back to voting RINO like we're supposed to.
At this point, it is not unreasonable to call Trump “the presumptive GOP nominee.”
(If for no other reason than to annoy the GOPe.)
No, they've gotta destroy the message so they can carry on as usual.
Too damn stupid to lead.
:: Donald Trump can be taken down if only a Republican donor were to write a big enough check ::
Well, duh! Buy-out Trump at 10% over his net worth and he’ll go away. These people are idiots!
The GOP is too busy voting for and implementing all of The Dictator’s BS.
The old farts have no strength left after all that effort.
I completely agree.
Waiting at this point to see, whether they will come to that conclusion.
Our party has sold out our country’s industry (as have Democrats as well, not picking on anyone in particular here) but the American people of both parties are fed up with the way things are going now.
We need to pay attention, and bring back American jobs.
Trump is the only one, in either party, saying this.
Trump will win, and win big.
Yes!
They do.
And their reaction is, “Screw those low lifes. Who needs ‘em?”
I heartily agree with posts #7 & #8 here.
Exactly right.

Rush had some ominous discussion about an hour ago regarding the GOP reprise of Romney/Ryan. Only caught a few minutes of it.
The fact that the GOP Establishment wants nothing to do with a GOP candidate who has taken off like wildfire is a huge huge story. Yet nobody in the LSM is in the least bit interested in why. ...
I didn’t hear that, sorry I had Rush on but wasn’t paying huge attention.
However Rush is pretty supportive of Trump.
He hasn’t said he prefers him, or anyone, but he’s not bashing him for sure.
Since when is it a reporters job to try and remove a candidate or influence an election? Therein lies the problem. It's Trump vs the whole swarmy mess----my $ is on Trump (literally).
Easy peasy beating Trump, simply out Trump Trump. Insulting his supporters by insisting he is a danger to the republic does not endear support from people who find in Trump something of value.

“Only Trump can stop Trump.....”
I beg to differ. The is a formidable machine arrayed against Trump and they will stop at NOTHING to put an end to his candidacy up to and including violence. They list in particular order:
#1 The Media including Fox News Channel
#2 The ‘Rat Party
#3 The GOP
#4 Wall Street
#5 Islamic and “Latino” Fronts such as CAIR, La Raza, etc.
#6 The Race Industry
#7 The Entertainment Industry
#8 Academia
If Trump can overcome those obstacles and not only win the Presidency but escape with his life you’re looking at an election that will go down in history.
BTW, after hearing and seeing what the MSM is saying today you all may as well face it. War is coming.....
