Sheppard Smith said, of the mass shooting that left 14 dead and 17 injured, Obama was quite right in calling for gun control.

I really do not find these words objectionable.
What I would prefer to "extrapolate" from it is this: The US is a rather violent country, when compared with many other countries. In some ways, that is actually a good thing, since it speaks to our independence of spirit, and our strong desire not to be dominated by the government.
However, whenever a mass shooting happens--well, that is certainly not a good thing...
