Ted Cruz on Sunday refused to address how he would handle the millions of undocumented immigrants already living in the country, despite hammering Marco Rubio this weekend for previously supporting a path to citizenship. Cruz refused to take off the table his own support of a potential path to legal status despite his cries against "amnesty."
"Let's demonstrate we can stop illegal immigration, we can protect our national security interests, we can protect our law enforcement interests," Cruz said after a campaign stop in Newton, Iowa. "Then once that's done, we can have a conversation at that point about whatever people remain here illegally."
Cruz has insisted the border must be secured before addressing proposals of how to deal with the millions of undocumented immigrants still living in the United States.

You're reading that into his comments -- asserting he said something he hasn't said.
Well, maybe. Spend anytime somewhere and it's hard to avoid picking up the idiom.
But, more than that, I believe his approach has to do with knowing how Congress works. And, unlike Zero, Cruz will implement his program constitutionally.
Congress isn't going to pass a "comprehensive" border-security-deportation-visa & immigration-reform-act. Whatever they pass, they're going to pass step-by-step. And probably be dragged screaming every step by torturous step.
Like it or not, that's the realistic approach...
Even though what you said is accurate, anyone who says this now is going to get the “RINO” label, whether or not it is deserving. You can dump water out of a leaky boat all day, but until you plug the holes, it doesn’t do any good.
One of the reasons I haven’t been on the blogosphere as much. Cruz is right on this issue.
From your link:
Find criminal immigrants: Instruct the Secretary of Homeland Security to identify all criminal illegal immigrants in state or local custody and issue detainers for those illegal immigrants while their deportations are processed.
Deport criminal immigrants: Recommit the federal government to deporting all illegal immigrants who commit crimes â and make use of all available tools to deport criminal immigrants as quickly as possible.
Sorry, Cruz is an “also-ran” who has only started toughening up his creds AFTER Trump made him look liberal.
Thanks for the correction. I had a sneaking suspicion that I was using the wrong spelling.
I don’t want a realistic approach. Or to be specific, I don’t want to START at that point.
I want to start with the laws on the books being enforced completely, as that is the Constitutional power and duty of the executive branch after all.
After that, I want to start the negotiations with a demand for the complete package. And then after that, the compromises, the kicking and screaming, and the piece-by-piece actions that need to be taken, as you said. I can’t imagine how it would be effective if you attempt to compromise before you even reach the negotiating table.
We’ll see.
This is a new Cruz insight on what I called out from Cruz’s website:

Cruz refuses to clarify after four times (today’s news).
He's already done that. Unequivocally.
"Legal status" remains unclear.
“inequity” makes perfect sense in your post! I bracketed “iniquity” only because it’s the common usage in the phrase, not so much a correction as a question!
I forgot to add the question mark [iniquity?]
Your posts are as inspiring as they are eloquent and educational!
If you’re poised to think that Ted Cruz is pro-amnesty, then all the evidence to the contrary cannot help you change your mind.
A simple Google search shows that Ted Cruz defines the term here:
If you’re impatient, you can see his definition of amnesty at the 50 second mark: “I consider Amnesty to be the forgiving the lawbreaking of those who come here illegally ...”
(The quote problem is maddening; thanks for taking the time to edit those.)
So Cruz is opposed to amnesty, which he’s defined as letting lawbreakers escape any accountability, and you damn him for that position. Nice.
Cruz has laid out a plan that will result in stopping the influx of illegals, and increase the deportation of illegals, and you damn him for that position.
Maybe the problem is that you just don’t like Cruz’s methodical and multifaceted approach to getting illegals out of our workforce, out of government assistance, and out of the country.
Cruz has been talking about amnesty and deportation for many years. The information is out there, if you care to take time to evaluate his many words on the subjects ...
Aw shucks....(blushing)
Thank you!
