U.S. presidential hopeful Donald Trump's support among Republicans has dropped 12 points in less than a week, marking the real estate mogul's biggest decline since he vaulted to the top of the field in July, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll.
Trump was the favorite of 31 percent of Republicans in a rolling poll in the five days ended on Nov. 27. That was down from a peak of 43 percent registered on Nov. 22.
The dip follows criticism of Trump for comments he made in the aftermath of the Nov. 13 Paris attacks that killed 130 people and wounded hundreds more.
Following the attacks, Trump told an NBC News reporter that he would support requiring all Muslims within the United States to be registered to a special database, which his critics have likened to the mandatory registration of Jews in Nazi Germany.
Trump has also been criticized for flailing his arms and distorting his speech as he mocked a New York Times reporter, Serge Kovaleski, who is disabled.
Trump mocked the reporter as he defended his unsubstantiated assertion that during the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the United States, he watched on television as "thousands and thousands" of people in New Jersey cheered while the World Trade Center fell.
Still, Trump is not the only front-runner to slide in the latest survey.
Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson has seen his poll numbers drift downward and now trails Trump by more than half, with just 15 percent of Republicans polled saying they would vote for him in the same Nov. 27 poll. As recently as late October, Carson trailed Trump by only six points.
Following Carson, Florida Senator Marco Rubio and Texas Senator Ted Cruz are tied for third place, with more than 8 percent each.

Who actually has payed attention to politics the last few days? Nobody but political junkies are following this story or cares about this story over Thanksgiving.
I don’t think the Muslim database or the reporter are the cause of any drop.
If anything, it was the 9/11 thousands of Muslims cheering in NJ thing that fed into the narrative that Trump is fast and loose with the truth. Even though, I’m sure everyone can agree there were some muslims in NJ cheering. Thousands was an exaggeration and the media is using it as a cudgel to beat Trump over the head.
Trump should have just referenced the Washington Post article and said his memory was wrong about the thousands part. It would have been a one day nothing burger of a story. Instead he quadrupled down and it became a big media frenzy. He will need to become more disciplined if he wants to go beyond his base of 30%.
= :^)
And what the panties in a deep wad folks, here, complaining about "the mocking of a disabled person" are purposely over-looking, is that Trump was MOCKING A STUPID LEFTY REPORTER, whom he claims he did not know is disabled. Trump can and should "mock" every single stupid reporter and talking head who goes after him !
The ups and downs of the polls seems more an artifact of how polling is done, rather than actual movement. Plus, as people are less and less likely to answer phones, phone polls become less and less reliable.
The only polls that will matter are the primary election results.
There’s more than one candidate who’s beating Hillary, actually Trump has the lowest margin of victory in head to heads with Hill. I don’t buy the premise that Trump is the only hope to beat Hillary Clinton.
After all they mock any of us who support Trump or Cruz or any other solid conservative.
Yes, that poll even has Carson beating her, which is NOT believable at all.
You don’t know what you are talking about. Here is what the reporter was quoted as saying in an article in the NYT.
“...In an interview on Thursday, Mr. Kovaleski said that he met with Mr. Trump repeatedly when he was a reporter for The Daily News covering the developerâs business career in the late 1980s, before joining The Post. âDonald and I were on a first-name basis for years,â Mr. Kovaleski said. âIâve interviewed him in his office,â he added. âIâve talked to him at press conferences. All in all, I would say around a dozen times, Iâve interacted with him as a reporter while I was at The Daily News.â”
I quoted the 10th paragraph of the story. Here is the Link. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/27/us/politics/donald-trump-says-his-mocking-of-new-york-times-reporter-was-misread.html?_r=0
And we are mocked, by them, even when there is no primary or election.
And lefty reports NEVER lie, do they. *snicker*
The rot gut pours freely from Reuters bottle. This ‘bunch’ should rename themselves to Roto-Rooters
Hey, boys, your polls are useless and insufferable. Give it up as your days are numbered.
GO TRUMP! GO CRUZ! ~ YOU WIN OR WE LOSE!!
I am very much in favor of the civil rights that are clearly expressed in the first ten amendments of the Constitution. I hope every conservative American that posts here on Free Republic is also.
Perhaps Trump got a little bounce from the Paris attacks which was temporary. Added in with a holiday means don’t panic.
Here is the New York Times article where the reporter claims to have interviewed and had other interractions with Donald Trump on many occasions. The article is entitled “Donald Trump Says His Mocking of New York Times Reporter Was Misread” and here is the 10th Paragraph from the Article.
We’ll see your reaction when your candidate gets ‘tromped’ on like Trump has been....whoever it is isn’t going to hold up under all of it, we do have things these other candidates have said ‘before’ they decided to run for office.....
OH YEAH...I forgot, the only one that can’t change his stance is Trump....
Turning this country around is going to take someone that knows how to get things done, has a vision of what he wants to accomplish and the people skills to build a team to implement his agenda. Someone exactly like Trump.
This is our last chance election, we'd better get it right this time cause another Bush or anything even close to a Bush and the country is finished as a Constitutional Republic. There is no doubt in my mind that Trump has an agenda and he is telling us exactly what that agenda is.
There are too many candidates!!!!!! If about 5 of them dropped out, we could get a clearer picture of how the voters will settle on a nominee.
Right now, there seems to be a ceiling of sorts on Trump; and too many others to divide the voies.
Something doesn’t add up here; literally. Trump is down 12, Carson is down 9 and Cruz & Rubio tied for Third Place at 8 points each. If Trump and Carson dropped a total of 21 points each and Cruz and Rubio are both just at 8 percent...... Where did that 21 point drop in the top two candidates go? Somebody help me out here.
