Warning From Ted Cruz: ‘Far Too Many’ Republicans Are Eager to Drag US Into Syria’s Civil War

Putting U.S. troops on the ground in Syria to counter the Islamic State and take on Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime would be a mistake, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said Wednesday.

"I don't believe the answer is sending boots on the ground to Syria," the Republican candidate for president told reporters in Washington. "President Obama - and I think far too many Republicans - are eager to get us in the middle of an internecine civil war in Syria. We don't have a dog in that fight."

Assad is a "monster" who has murdered women and children and gassed his own citizens, Cruz said, but handing the country over to warring extremist factions would be worse.

"The enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend," he said. "And toppling Assad, if it results in radical Islamic terrorists taking over Syria, if it results in Al Qaeda or Al Nusra or ISIS taking over all of Syria, that would be a catastrophic mistake."

Some Republican candidates, including Ohio Gov. John Kasich and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, have said they would support putting U.S. boots on the ground in Syria.

No, there is no way he ever would have any part of that scheme.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. Stevens went to Bengazi to block a shipment.

The war, when it initiates, will be starting in Eastern Europe, as per usual..

Obama just has no will.

No we are talking about the “Syrian Refugees”. Only six of whom have ever actually stepped foot in Syria.

Putting U.S. troops on the ground in Syria to counter the Islamic State and take on Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime would be a mistake,.... Sen. Ted Cruz

I agree we should not put Troops in Syria.....that is exactly what Iran and Turkey want....’THEY ARE ISIS’..... Who “believe” their apocalyptic war against the “infidel” or the “great satan” (The US) will be fought in Syria.

Neither nation has the means to take on Syria themselves which is why their greatest hope is that Russia and the US would go at it..... but make no mistake Syria is pivotal to their aspirations, it is Key. Turkey's Erdogan has been manipulating throngs of refugees into Europe to put pressure on nation leaders to "act" in Syria......He's not just standing by, he's standing by fully prepared to go in once the dust settles, as is Iran. Neither can do so unless whatever Government is established there falls. Syria is immensely important to the Muslim Leaders minds and hearts.

So we should not offer our troops to the war these two nations covet, nothing would make them happier then to see the US fully engaged on the ground........you would then see every Islamic warrior in the Middle EAst converge on that country in far greater masses then there are now.

Yes we do have the ability. Hope we don’t run out of time and lose it.

Good to know that Cruz understands the situation in Syria is more complex than a group of good guys and a group of bad guys. Very few, if any, things are that black and white in the middle east. The Syrian war, Assad, ISIS, Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Russia, the Kurds...so many players involved and more behind the scenes. It’s a minefield and boots on the ground is a lose-lose proposition.

Its easy to say 'Let Putin have the mideast'. what it means in reality isn't good for anyone.

Syria is has been a Russian Client state for a long time so their support for Assad is understandable and not worth fighting over. That doesn't mean they should roll over the mideast unopposed. I wouldn't be opposed to a degree of shared leadership there but you have to have the right man sitting across the table from Putin to do it right.

We have no reason to be in Syria. We did have one for Iraq.

All islamic states need a strong man to rule, islam allows for nothimg less. Assad works. The only thing that will replace him will be more evil.

Those six are the ones who are known. It took only 8 to blow up Paris on an ordinary Friday night, kill 130, and critically injure 350. Let’s check out your six, and wonder how many are already here that were not identified.

These refugees need to be returned to a safe zone in Syria, guarded by Putin and the West, with a no fly zone, particularly in war time.

Never mind, also, that this refugee business, under Obama, is not charity. This is Obama fundamentally transforming our country. He told us that on the night he won the election, under the Greek columns.

See any clues, be sure and pick up one. It might save your life, or someone you love. Or, maybe not.

Are you that dense? I am explaining to you that this war in Syria has been going on for nearly 5 years now. The battle lines have barely moved for the last two years.

This “FAKE” refugee crises started crossing into Europe this summer. Follow?

THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT FROM SYRIA! They are refujihadists from all over the Muslim world. They are in Europe at the urging of Leftist/Soros funded NGOs. You can not “contain” them in Syria. They’ve never heard of the place!

Oh. Well, okay. Be sure and take that up with both sides of the aisle here in the US, who are gathering forces to make a safe space for these millions of refugees, in Syria and elsewhere.

They really need to know this.

It would help if they would stop listening to CNN and spend five minutes talking to Orban the Hungarian Prime Minister.

He could explain to them very clearly where these people come from and who wants them in Europe and America. ISIS is code for Muslim. They a recall ISIS. All of them!

According to European reports, only 25-30% of the “refugees” are from Syria. Most of the rest are from Iraq and Afghanistan.

True story. Where were we when those refugees needed us? You couldn’t even get the Kurds guns and simple weapons out of Washington DC, under the grip of Obama and wasted Boehner.

Absolutely out of the question was serving the needs of those poor Coptic Christians. AND IT STILL IS. The Kurds were over run. Turkey was over run.

But Obama puts it on speed dial at mach 10 to care for the Muslims, and he wants them in here. He also wants this country fundamentally transformed. I don’t.

“No, there is no way he ever would have any part of that scheme.”

BS. First and foremost, he was a loyal Obamabot. He was the pointman ALREADY working with Al Qeida in the effort to overthrow Libya. He was right in the middle of it.
Going there to “stop it”. That’s laughable. He couldn’t possibly stop it there.
