Politico has already begun to backtrack its explosive story accusing Ben Carson of lying about an acceptance to West Point, deleting its claim that Carson had confessed to “fabricating†his admission.
When it first published its story Friday morning, the Virginia-based blog aggressively declared that Carson had admitted to telling a big lie about his past.
“Ben Carson’s campaign on Friday admitted … that a central point in his inspirational personal story was fabricated,†Politico’s story originally said.
Just hours later, though, this opening line was removed entirely and Politico’s accusation significantly scaled back.
“Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson on Friday conceded that he never applied nor was granted admission to West Point,†the new lede says. While the difference may appear slight, the change is dramatic, as Carson is no longer accused of fabricating anything.
While the article includes a context-free acknowledgement that the story was “updated,†Politico has otherwise refused to admit to making the correction.
Politico’s original accusation has rapidly swept across the entire news cycle. “Carson Admits To Major Lie About His Background†was the headline at MSNBC, and similar titles appeared all over the web.
Now, it appears, Politico’s claim that Carson admitted to lying may have ironically proven to be a lie itself.
Carson has responded harshly to Politico’s reporting.
“The Politico story is an outright Lie,†Carson spokesman Doug Watts told The Daily Caller News Foundation earlier Friday. In an interview with The New York Times, Carson described his offer of a spot at West Point as informal in nature.
“It was, you know, an informal ‘with a record like yours we could easily get you a scholarship to West Point,'†Carson said.
Despite Politico’s claim that Carson had fabricated an application and acceptance to West Point, earlier statements by the candidate show that he’s readily admitted to never applying to West Point. During a Facebook Q&A session with voters last August, Carson said he got an “offer†from West Point, but also said that he chose to not apply to the school, indicating the offer was informal in nature.

CNN has been on the Ben Carson issue all morning.
Carson might have a good case for both.
And NO you don't get a ‘do over’ with crap like this...go peddle your garbage on someone else like obuma who has almost totally ruined America and Hillary who wants to dabble in ‘dirty rotten’ politics, her brand is all she knows...
And if she thinks she's going to do this with Trump, if he doesn't steamroll the ‘old hag’ we supporters of Trump most certainly will!!

Have you seen CNN ratings? The only ones listening there are the Leftist choir.
Last month or 2 I have discovered that CNN has more coverage of Trump by a factor of 10 compared to Fox.
Before, I seldom watched CNN. Now I watch CNN & MSNBC

Matthews has been fairer than most other hosts these days. Joe Scarborough has been good also. Cannot tolerate the msnbc tranny wannabe girl/guy though.

Kyle Cheney’s own “Not” about his story is full of smoke and mirrors, desperately trying to scale back his original lie, by somehow blaming Carson’s campaign for his original bald faced lie, saying that their statements did not constitute what he originally said they did.
Look, when you realize that Kyle Cheney is simply a graduate cum laude of the Dan Rather school of broadcasting fabrication...the rest becomes clear.
So which of the GOP candidates is Politico endorsing? I must have missed that. It’s obviously not Mr. Carson.

Carson may not have lied about West Point in his book, but it sure sounds like he was embellishing his JUNIOR ROTC days.
S o the mainstream media is dishonest. What else is new?
That obviously disqualifies him.
