Politico has rewritten the headline, lede, and several portions of the text of an article accusing Ben Carson of "fabricating" part of his personal biography involving the Military Academy at West Point.
The story, bearing the byline of reporter Kyle Cheney, now omits the original version's declarations that Carson's statements were false or fraudulent, as seen in an archive of the article.

“Trump also needs to recognize he was wrong in repeating the story and apologize.”
For what? For the upteenth time, Carson absolutely WAS NOT OFFERED a “full Scholarship” at West Point. West Point does not offer scholarship. You apply for admission. He lied like hell, he has always lied about it and Fox will perfectly happen to be an assessory in the lie. Let Carson prove the assertion. Carson said that he was offered a scholarship to attend, but the school doesnât offer scholarships. Rather, students are offered admission without tuition in exchange for serving their country when they graduate.
Jorge Ramos is on TV right now hitting Carson....Carson isnt my guy but we need to all stand for the truth and against the mescin scumbags.
Kyle Cheney is a reporter for POLITICO's Campaign Pro.
Cheney came to POLITICO in June 2012 to cover health care and spent two years covering the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and its political implications â from the Supreme Court decision upholding the law to the rollout of HealthCare.gov and the coverage gains that ensued. He came to POLITICO after five years reporting on Massachusetts government and politics for the State House News Service, an independent wire service.
Coverage, which appeared daily in The Boston Globe, Boston Herald and others, included the implementation of a near-universal health care law; the indictment, trial and conviction of the stateâs third felonious House speaker in a row; the rise and reelection of Gov. Deval Patrick; and all matters of public policy.
Cheney, a New York native and unabashed Yankees fan, graduated from Boston University in 2007 with a journalism degree after a semester as editor of BU's student paper, The Daily Free Press.
the fact that Carson supports amnesty, more gun control, has stated that his goals are the same as Al Sharpton’s, keeps a Farrakhan supporter on his staff, and has looked rather foolish talking about the pyramids.
The only onfabricating anything is Ben Carson. Carson was never offered a “full scholarship” to West Point. The academy does not offer scholarships. They offer appointments after you apply, meet the criteria and apply for admission. Carson never did this. He mislead the public for years and was called out on it. He admits it tonight on O’Reilly. It was not not a mistake from years ago. As recent as two weeks ago on PBS he said the exact same thing. That he was “offered a full scholarship”. Carson is a liar who was caught.
You don’t know wtf you’re talking about. West Point advertises “full scholarships”.
After the “lie” story went viral: Rush read 20 headlines that used the word “lie” or “falsehood,” or some other version of that. Not a Carson supporter, but this is just like those disgusting “questions” at the debate, which as Rush pointed out were merely “weapons” used to “assassinate” the GOP contenders.
The creeps already did their damage. It can’t be undone, and they know it.
I suppose you could strain at that gnat all day, but it is not a far stretch to equate an offer for admission with full tuition paid as being a “full scholarship.” You may have good reasons in your own mind to oppose Dr. Carson’s candidacy, but if your reasoning is anything like that which causes you to call Carson an outright liar, I suspect your reasoning in choosing presidents may be lacking substance as well.
Then Carson should refrain from acting like an archaeologist!
I don’t remember saying that I ‘worship’ Trump, but maybe you can prove otherwise. My support for Trump is based on ONE ISSUE, which is sealing the border...he is the ONLY ONE that isn’t trying to be ‘cute’ on the subject.
In any case, if ‘worship’ how you view Trump supporters, I do feel sorry for Rove and you guys as you are about to THROWN ON YOUR BUTTS once the primaries begin.
...but I have NO DOUBT that you guys will find a THIRD PARTY candidate to run, and try to steal votes from Trump so as to give it to Hillary, just as you guys did in Virginia against North, and with Anderson, against Reagan. We do know how you Establishment guys operate - but we are ready this time.
Nothing is offered before you apply. He never applied. He’s a liar.
General Westmoreland’s schedule shows Carson’s story about meeting him is also not true.
LOL! Love that expression!
Boink! OW!
No you are the damn liar. I know this for a fact because I was offered an appointment to the US Merchant Marine Academy in 1968. I never applied.
Another lie by you. Westmoreland was in Detroit for a dinner in 1969. You suck at slander and libel.
PS: I support Cruz. But I am not going to stand idly by while a decent and good man is slimed by Politico and their allies here at FR.
So Westmoreland would have to schedule this meeting before it could ever happen. Is that what you’re saying? He would have to make annotations indicating he met a young ROTC student named “Ben Carson” in the record before it could ever happen. Is that what you’re saying?
He had excellent grades, a great ROTC record and got into Yale. I am sure he would have gotten into the USMA had he applied.
That being said, Carson needs to STFU about his temper and “stabbings” he attempted as a youth.
Actually that theory has been around for centuries. It is not at all out there. Google it.
The FReepers who fell for this Politico lie was breathtaking.
Pray America wake
As opposed to nobody remembering Obama at Columbia.
