In Tuesday’s elections, voters rejected recreational marijuana, transgender rights, and illegal-immigrant sanctuaries; they reacted equivocally to gun-control arguments; and they handed a surprise victory to a Republican gubernatorial candidate who emphasized his opposition to gay marriage.
Democrats have become increasingly assertive in taking liberal social positions in recent years, believing that they enjoy majority support and even seeking to turn abortion and gay rights into electoral wedges against Republicans. But Tuesday’s results—and the broader trend of recent elections that have been generally disastrous for Democrats not named Barack Obama—call that view into question. Indeed, they suggest that the left has misread the electorate’s enthusiasm for social change, inviting a backlash from mainstream voters invested in the status quo.
Consider these results:
*Ohio voters rejected a ballot initiative to legalize recreational marijuana by a 30-point margin.
*Voters in Houston—a strongly Democratic city—rejected by a 20-point margin a nondiscrimination ordinance that opponents said would lead to “men in women’s bathrooms.â€
*The San Francisco sheriff who had defended the city’s sanctuary policy after a sensational murder by an illegal immigrant was voted out.
*Two Republican state senate candidates in Virginia were targeted by Everytown for Gun Safety, former New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg’s gun-control group. One won and one lost, leaving the chamber in GOP hands. . .

In many cities, one cannot even get the local network channels without going through cable. And most people would jump off their roofs before they would give up cable, even if they don’t watch it that much.
What happens after the private school students leave the classroom? They generally go to state universities or liberal dominated private universities. Then there is the generally toxic mainstream culture. The casualty rate is high, judging by church membership statistics, even recent ones from evangelicals. Unfortunately, both the major Christian groups with conservative inclinations are either compromised with liberalism, specifically the Catholic Church under the current Pope, or are focused on the Rapture as the only way out of the long term decline, as is the case with many Baptists, most independent Bible churches, and many charismatics.
Nothing is hopeless, but it will take a major tectonic shift in the economy or a sudden, precipitous loss of international power with Russia and China supplanting this country as the world's dominant powers, to loosen the death grip the political and cultural Left hold.
Good statistics gathering. 50 million students is a number that shocks me. So many minds full of mush and so many dysfunctional families who offload their kids on the state as quickly as possible. Pre-school at 4 years old just makes me sick.

I understand that ... most cable companies have a package where you can get locals for around $10-$15/month packaged with your internet service ... none of that goes to the slimy, filthy cable channels out there. Moreover, you can run the cable right into your TV ... no need to waste money on a box.
I hate to sound like one of those “I’ve seen the light people” :-). Our problems in this nation are a lot more than just “TV”. However, I’d easily wager 1/3rd of the money cable TV brings in comes out of pockets of Conservatives. I’d bet another 1/3rd has zero idea about the garbage they are funding. You cut that kind of funding from the elite, they’ll panic.
I often see PBS get slammed ... I’d actually start slamming cable TV before PBS. While PBS is a taxpayer funded socialist madhouse, the “regular” stuff is doing far more damage to this country at large and many are voluntarily funding that trash at levels far higher than they’re forced to fund PBS just to see game shows every Sunday or some oddball zombie show that’s 90% boring blather, 10% story (I’m gonna get killed for that one ;-) ... face it though, “The Walking Dead” is a major bore most of the time it’s on ... kind of like the way “Lost” got in its 3rd season).
Pre-school for the disadvantaged can also start at three now.
The liberal setback on November 3, 2015, means nothing. Most don’t know they were set back, and those who do will work harder than ever for liberalism everywhere they can.

A previous cultural revolution took place between the late 1960’s to the late 1970’s. A silent majority rose up in 1980 and regained control.
Except the the Judges make the law now.
If the voters don’t do what they want, the just demand the legislature pass the laws.
The state is putting huge pressures on the private school system. Home school isn’t for everyone, and to be honest creates a hurdle for any one looking to go into higher education.
If all the Christians walked out of the public school system, you would see the Army forcing them back in.

Very good analysis. But I would offer something to consider: what really matters is what you can do in your own backyard to improve things. I don’t control or even meaningfully influence what happens in the world at large. But my own backyard? I have a lot of influence there.
I’m fond of pointing out that during the dark ages, some people did relatively well and prospered. I suggest that its smart to do what’s necessary to be in that group.

however the dems control the media, hollywood, education—both k1-12 and college and post graduate education, the unions, most professions including the legal professions. they are overwhelmingly powerful in the judiciary.

Wish it were so but it is not.
The South won the last two battles of the Civil War.
. . .Republicans now control more than (state legislative) 4,100 seats — their highest number since 1920. After taking over 11 legislative chambers from Democrats in 2014, Republicans now control 30 state legislatures completely — and have full control of state government (state legislature and governorship) in 23 states. Democrats, by contrast, have full control of 11 state legislatures and total control of state government in just seven states.
Yeah i saw that article earlier in the year when it came out.
This week added a bit to some of those gains.
Likely the awfulness of obama will add a little more next november. If there is a strong popular pubbie presidential candidate he might pull more byo his coat tails.
That said, dem control of much of the rest of the culture is nearly complete.
The pubbies will have to do something really profound to change the culture. just as the democrats have done under obama. obama has been visionary. its just that people hate most of his vision.
