PPP IA: Trump back in the lead, 22-21 over Carson, Cruz 14, Rubio 10

Cruz is rising in Iowa; Clinton Back Out to Dominant Lead

PPP's newest Iowa poll finds a tight race on the Republican side in the state with Donald Trump at 22%, Ben Carson at 21%, Ted Cruz at 14%, Marco Rubio at 10%, Mike Huckabee and Bobby Jindal each at 6%, and Jeb Bush and Carly Fiorina each at 5%. Polling further back are Chris Christie at 3%, John Kasich, Rand Paul, and Rick Santorum each at 2%, Lindsey Graham with less than 1%, and Jim Gilmore and George Pataki each with no supporters.

Compared to our last Iowa poll in mid-September Trump's support is down 2 points (from 24% to 22%), while Carson's support is up 4 points (from 17% to 21%) putting them in the deadlock. The big gainer from a month ago is Ted Cruz though. He's gone from 8% to 14%, and also seen his favorability rating improve from 51/23 to 62/16. Cruz is now leading the field in Iowa among Tea Party voters (34% to 24% for Trump and 22% for Carson), and voters who identify themselves as 'very conservative' (24% to 22% for Carson and 21% for Trump.)

So I think most of the polls are totally worthless.

Agree.

Trump pays for a lot of them himself...

Source please.

Nope. Wrong argument. I am not going by his previous polls in this PARTICULAR poll but the hoopla that “Carson is leading in IA.”

Well, since all of the recent Iowas polls have shown a significant movement from Trump to Carson, even one of the polls you are touting today, I think the trend supports the contention that Carson is really leading in Iowa.

Why not just post the headline? The real headline? If you want to put the numbers in parenthesis then go ahead, but changing the headline to suit your purposes isn’t a good idea in my opinion.

By the way, there is a new national WSJ/NBC poll that has Carson in the lead. So Trump still seems to be locked in a battle for first - and some of the 2nd tier (up till now) candidates may be gaining some traction too.

There is a long way to go, and posting polling information with accurate headlines is helpful to everyone.

I think it was reposted already with the actual headline.

Anyway, it was just my opinion. Don’t mean to seem like I was picking at you. I just think seeing the actual headlines is important. Having numbers or a comment in parenthesis is fine and even helpful sometimes, just as long as I can scan the articles and see the headlines.

Cheers.

Honestly I get used to posting on Twitter where real headline is too long. I forget sometimes FR is on different rules.

Got it. It’s just a pet peeve of mine. Like I said, I don’t want it to seem like I’m picking at you.

And yeah, Twitter is a whole different world.

I donate regularly to Ted Cruz, but I support Trump as well. I will say the problem with the bad numbers for Trump is that they are either outlieRa compared to similar polls or the internals reflect large numbers of democrats participating, this was openly recorded in a recent NBC poll. The democrats who participated in a GOP candidate poll outnumbered the GOP participants.

So really, many of these polls stink and for good reason.

Could you imagine Carson debating Hillary?

I can. It would be peaceful. The Hildebeest would feign lady-like decorum and ooze respect for Carson. She would even compliment him. Carson would project his usual gentlemanly demeanor and thank the Hill for her kind words. The pundits would report it as a big win for the beast.

Awful literature, but culturally aware and appeals to a younger demographic.

I think it's a little on the prescient side, with the Beltway taking on the character of Panem's Capitol and the thirteen districts representing "flyover country".

In the Hunger Games movies, the mockingjay is the symbol of resistance and rebellion. It's also associated with the phrase "catching fire," so it's not a bad symbol for a political candidate. But there also may be a suggestion of deceptiveness, which may not be what a campaign wants to put out there (and with an arrow through it, too).

It's not a real bird. The author invented it. I would have come up with all this yesterday, but there are so many movies of this sort out there (Hunger Games, Maze Runner, Divergent) that it's hard to keep them straight.

Once I had the name so that I could see the original, that was obvious. From the silhouette alone, I thought it was a tern with perhaps a fish in its mouth. Couldn't tell.
