GOP Debate Venue Will Be 90% Empty - Wouldn't want the TV audience hearing Trump cheers!
NPR ^ | OCTOBER 27, 2015 | RACHEL ESTABROOK

Posted on 10/28/2015 8:55:23 AM PDT by 20yearsofinternet

While millions will watch the third Republican presidential debate on TV, just 1,000 people will get tickets to see the event in person in the massive Coors Events Center on the scenic University of Colorado campus in Boulder.

CNBC, the cable network sponsoring the debate, didn't respond to questions about why the 11,000-seat arena would remain mostly empty.

"The way it was explained to us by CNBC is the event is meant for a TV audience, not so much for a live audience," said Ryan Lynch, the executive director of the Colorado Republican Party, which will get 200 tickets to split among party donors and elected officials.

Sadly, too many haven’t caught on that this is part of his act.

Ah, how deliciously reminiscent of every overweight, single-parent of a single-parent, convenience store political commentator's assessment of Reagan.

This alone is enough for Trump to skip.

What a set up, 11,000 seat venue and only 1000 or so people allowed in.

They are all afraid that Trump supporters would fill up that place and make it loud and known who they are for.

What a bunch of cowards!!!!!!!

We’ll, I’m not a single parent, not raised by one, and I work out often and my weight is good.

Yet, in that statement, you’ve disputed nothing I’ve said. Fascinating.

I guess it’s just me but I support conservatives. If you don’t, that’s your business but don’t sell Trump as a conservative

Nice words. Inaccurate, but impressive vocabulary.

Ooops, you're right. I inadvertently conflated your posts with LMAO's.

Sorry.

You're right. I was just making an observation on how your opinion of Trump so closely parallels that of every loser that impugned Reagan.

“Don’t let your dislike of Trump’s demeanor blind you to what he is advocating.”

And many of those positions will change next week

Or not...

Trump praised the stimulus.

Are you expecting him to initiate a new round of it?  I don't know anyone else who does.  See my additional comments marked HERE below.

Trump praised the Canadian and Scottish healthcare systems and supports single payer.

In January of 2000, Trump said he thought we should have a system like Canada or Scotland's.

This is 2015.  He changed his mind over the years, and I am amazed at how many people are upset that he did.

Obamacare is a government run health care system, headed toward a single payer with steadily increasing fees.

Trump is advocating removing the state line restructions that prevent insurance companies from competing nationwide.  This will reduce fees through competition.  It will get people back into the private sector.  He also thinks that increased competition will result in a proliferation of types of policies.  That is a movement away from single payer, towards lower fees, and without govenrment involvement.

Trump backed Hillary for Senate.

Trump was an international businessman in New York who might need the help of the U. S. Senator from his state.  That was Hillary Clinton.  At the same time he sent her funds, he was also sending Republicans funds.  He didn't send the Republicans as much, but knowing New York state and who the politicians were there, it's amazing he sent fund to any Republicans.  None the less he sent out hundreds of thousands of dollars to them.  Thought you'd like to know.

Trump called Obama a great leader who knows what he wants  HERE

This is a report that touched on what you have mentioned here and above.  LINK

President Obama held his first prime-time press briefing — designed to build support for the economic stimulus package that was his top priority upon taking office — on Feb. 9, 2009. Later that same night, real estate mogul Donald Trump took to the airwaves to sing the plan’s — and the president’s — praises.

I thought he did a terrific job,” Trump told Fox News’s Greta Van Susteren. “This is a strong guy knows what he wants, and this is what we need.

First of all, I thought he did a great job tonight,” said Trump. “I thought he was strong and smart, and it looks like we have somebody that knows what he is doing finally in office, and he did inherit a tremendous problem. He really stepped into a mess, Greta.

When did he say this.  What was going on in that environement.  What was the state of the nation?

When: Obama had been inaugurated 20 days prior on January 20th, 2009.  On February 9th, 2009, Obama held his first prime-time press briefing.  In it he presented his Stimulus (porkulous) plan.  That same night, Trump appared on the Van Susteren program to voice support for the plan.  In this report he is quoted as saying he looked at it, but I'm not sure how well he was able to it being the same day. What was going on:  The economy was in melt-down mode.  What was the state of the nation:  Precarious

Obama was handed off about as bad an economic situation as a president could confront during his first days.  That was our watch handing this disasterous situation off too.  Thanks a lot Bush.

In this environment, there was a lot of speculation about what should be done.  Here on the forum there was debate about it.  Some folks thought it was a Democrat graft program.  Others thought the economy needed help.  Let's remember that Bush had already pumped in massive funds.  It was rather an interesting call to term Obama's stimulas simply a Democrat ploy, when Bush had done something similar.  I believe I was a fence sitter to leaing toward doing this.  I did think Bush's initial action was needed, but I wasn't totally sure of Obama's plan.  I wan't totally against it either.  My recollection may be faulty.  I may have been more in favor of it than I recall now.

I have since come to suspect that both the Bush and Obama plan may have been unnecessary.  Trump wasn't the only person who supported Obama on this.  I believe that some FReepers got it more right than I did.

There are times when a plan is devised that you may not agree with all the way, but none the less you get behind it because that's the only chance a plan has of being a success, and the nation needed for that plan to succeed.

Trump could have sat there and trashed the plan, and the nation could have watched as a debate raged on for months with nothing being done.  Trump may have felt compelled to support just about any plan to get things moving.

Is that bad?  Perhaps yes.  Perhaps no.  In life, our plan isn't always the plan.  The plan still needs to work in times when important things need to get done.

If you want to blame that on Trump, be my guest.

Reagan warned about government run healthcare

And Trump advocates a private sector replacement for Obamacare..

Reagan supported Goldwater in his presidential run

Trump was not  in politics.  He was a businessman from a very liberal state.

Reagan spent years building the conservative movement behind him

Trump has not been involved in politics.  Nice story.  Not everyone's story will be the same.

Don’t let your love of his demeanor blind you to what he has advocated

It hasn't.  I look at the things he has done in the context he did or didn't do them.

I also take a good look at what he is advocating today.  His policies are very Reagan like today.

He also has donated to Shumer and Democrats

And Reagan praised FDR. Should we have taken a pass?

I could go on and on but that would be too easy and you’ll have an excuse for everything I list regarding Trump, anyways.

So another words when you spin for yourself and your fellow travelers, I'm supposed to keep silent?

Not gonna happen.

I think it’s clear that papertyger uses big words to compensate for his small ideas. It’s tempting to continue dialoging with him, but he truly is a paper tiger (which means “a person or thing that appears threatening but is ineffectual”). His lightweight attacks are meant to get under our skin, but it’s not worth the time to respond to his wisp.

It should be obvious to any critical thinker that Ted Cruz is the strongest conservative running, the best and most competent candidate in the lineup, a man of integrity who is our best hope for taking our nation in the right direction as President.

There shouldn’t be an audience for debates. Cheering crowds just prove it’s a dog and pony show not an actual discussion of issues.

A lot of excuses you’re making for him and no, it wasn’t just in 2000. I’ve dealt with Trumps position on healthcare that go past 2000 in other posts so I won’t re iterate those.

You actually, whether you realized it or not, made my points for me regarding Trump and his supporters. Thanks...lol

How can that be? Trump is for "single payer!" Haven't you heard?

Isn't it funny how Trump's critics seem to be listening to him exclusively on a staticky radio with the signal fading in and out?

No one is disputing that fact.

It's his electability, and succeeding that, his ability to bear up under an administration-long PR onslaught from the MSM that is in question.

You really should try listening to your opposition rather than assigning comforting stupidities for their motivation; you wouldn't look near the ass you do now.

No actually we listen to him. Us thinking people know many of his past statements aren’t jiving with what he’s saying now so we are very skeptical. He has supported single payer. Then he gets vague but praises single payer in Scotland and Canada. Then he switches and claims he’s for a free market in healthcare because he knows that advocating single payer won’t sell in a GOP primary while still praising the Canadian system which is in fiscal trouble. He praised BHO’s stimulus when we all knew at the time it wouldn’t work and got just a few GOP votes but added to the debt and deficit.
No, my friend, we listen. We hear. We read. And many of us decided that a Northeast liberal isn’t what we want

Why isn’t it obvious that Trump is playing you? He’s a showman, he’s a salesman, he’s and actor. The stuff he’s saying now to tickle conservatives’ ears is new, a ploy, a game for higher ratings. And so many are falling for this showman’s show.

So much silliness, so little time.  Reagan was a showman.  He was a salesman.  He was an actor.  The stuff he was saying was to tickle the U. S. public's ears.  It was a ploy to sell good values and a sound political process.  Aren't we fortunte the public bought in.  Reagan praised FDR as one of our best presidents.  I voted for him twice despite that.

Unreal that you’re comparing wildman Trump to statesman Reagan. Unreal.

Both sold the same policies to the U. S. citizen.

Yes, the bombastic and thin-skinned showman Trump is saying a lot of good things. I agree that Trump 2015 sounds really good. He sure can whip up a crowd. I understand why his words this year are getting him high ratings.

We have a guy who is a charismatic individual hawking Reagan's platform to the U. S. public.  Your reaction is to trash him.

Reagan's platform is winning him supporters because they love those values.  This upsets you.

A whole new generation of people are being turned on to Reagan's ideals, and you see nothing of value.

Can you grasp that long after Trump has faded, the ideals he is instilling in this generation, will live on?

The answer to that is no.  That is very unfortunate.

It is astounding that so many are falling for his act.

It is astounding that you can't even grasp what "his act" is accomplishing.

He is educating the U. S. public.  Down deep inside, you actually know it too.  Here...

The stuff he’s saying now to tickle conservatives’ ears is new, a ploy, a game for higher ratings. And so many are falling for this showman’s show.  Yes, the bombastic and thin-skinned showman Trump is saying a lot of good things. I agree that Trump 2015 sounds really good. He sure can whip up a crowd. I understand why his words this year are getting him high ratings.

So no matter if he is educating the public right out of Reagan's playbook or not, you are upset.

That is what is astounding.

Those of us who back Trump are under no delusion.

We know that a Conservative has not been nominated to represent us in a General Election since 1984.

Cruz will not be nominated with Democrat, Independent, and Moderate Republicans voting with Conservatives to select our nominee.

It will take a charismatic.  Trump is that man.

If you can't get behind and push, get out of the way.

In your mind you believe a lot of things.

One thing you don’t, is that Reagan’s platform needs to be heard loudly by this generation.

Failing that, your opinion has the street cred of Hillary Clinton.

Us thinking people know many of his past statements aren’t jiving with what he’s saying now so we are very skeptical.

Of what? Is he going to spring Cuban healthcare on us once he's safely in office?

The man is a world class negotiator! Don't "thinking people" recognize the value of bargaining position, holding out hope of compromise to ones opposition, or the sanctity in which he holds the terms of a deal, once made?

Anything he's said in the past is irrelevant to what he's running on now. What he's saying now are the "terms of the deal" he's making with the American people.

It seems obvious to me many of FreeRepublic's self-professed "critical thinkers" need to put quite a bit more emphasis on the "thinking," and throttle way back on the "critical."
