Longtime political strategist Karl Rove is warning Republicans not to nominate a presidential candidate that reflects the same "populist anger" that gave birth to the rise of Donald Trump.
In his latest op-ed for the Wall Street Journal, Rove explained the GOP will have two choices when delegates gather in Cleveland, Ohio, next July to determine which remaining Republican hopeful they wish to see challenge Democrats in the general election.
"Will the party choose a nominee with a conservative agenda or one reflecting populist anger?" Rove wrote.
"The two are hardly the same," he noted. "Conservative principles provide a winning path to the White House. Populist outrage alone will end in defeat."

Maybe the scales finally fell from our eyes. If the last 15 years have been ‘’conservatives’’, count me out. Actually, longer than 15 years. And at least, Dubya was likable and basically, a decent guy. The others- not so much.
Porky acting out again?
Maybe he could lecture us on how the Oligarchy is good for us.
In Spanish.
Twelve years ago, many of us still believed that the Republican party was the party of conservative ideals.
We woke up. We’ve watched the GOP stroke our hair with one hand and shake hands with the Dems with the other too many times.
Rove gave us McCain. Rove gave us Romney.
And we grumbled and held our noses and went with the party line because the Dems were just *so* much worse.
Now we understand that backing a party that bends to the Dems every time is as bad as backing the Dems themselves.
We’re sick of it and we’re rioting.
Is Bob Dole still alive? If not, could we dig him up?
He’s Fat Bastard.
It is really rich hearing these folks lecture the base on not being conservative.enough
Didn’t Dubya call him “turd blossom”? Fitting name.
Karl would not know a conservative principle if it bit him on his ample posterior.
They have not changed. We wised up.
Well i guess we now have our marching orders.
Buthee-buthee-buthee.. thats all folks!

“Don’t pick a candidate that doesn’t need my services. I need that MONEY!”
While history favors a GOP win, I think the guy who could actually win the general is a) not in the race, b) has yet to be revealed or, c) bowed out already. I am not a fan of any of the GOP people in the race now. And yes Hillary is horrible.
I would have loved to have been in the meeting of democrats when they figured out how to infiltrate the highest levels of the republican party for years to come. Because they sure did a good job. Was it Soro’s money or was it blackmail? Or both?
I was gonna hit “report abuse” for even mentioning his name but you’ve been on a long time and i would get kicked off :)
what a jerk!!!!! and he was a hero when Bush got elected twice.
He’s been right about nothing since forever and show go away.
i haven’t watched fox for even months. Anything important i need is right here.
did watch debate and reminded me why i dont watch fox. that ditz coming out like it was a rock concert trying to diss trump.
“Remember when Rove was a magnificent bastard?”
I don’t know why you would say that. I haven’t changed and I always left off the “magnificent” part.
Agreed, with the exception of Bush. There was a period when we had a Republican president, conservative Supreme Court, and control of both houses of Congress. A perfect storm, the scenario made for turning the country around. A what did they do with it? The size of federal government continued to grow, along with destruction of the republican form of governing (see the universalization of the Commerce Clause), and ballooning of the debt. Bush was and is a nice guy but “compassionate” conservatism was and is the application of socialism by other means.
