The FDNY's first chief diversity and inclusion officer is leaving the post after less than a year on the job, the FDNY said Thursday.
Pamela Lassiter was sworn in Jan. 30.
Sources said that Lassiter's departure came as a surprise. "Here we have someone who is academically qualified. She's a black, female . . . Then, suddenly - bam, she's gone," one fire official said.
The position was created after a judge ruled that the FDNY's entrance exam was biased against minorities.
Commissioner Daniel Nigro, in a statement on Lassiter's exit, stressed the FDNY's progress in improving that record.

They used to be called racial quotas. Then they changed the terminology to diversity.
But they already had a black female. Who else would be equally qualified, other than another black female? I suppose they could go with a Hispanic transgender, or a limp-wrist mixed-race man, but there isn't much else that could match what they already had, since the only job qualification is to be diverse and check as many diversity boxes as possible.
I suppose it measured whether someone could read and count.
