He had been in fifth place at 8 percent in the last Fox News poll after having been in third place at 10 percent in Fox's August poll.
As the latest poll shows the Republican presidential contest a neck-and-neck race between two men who have led the contest in recent weeks, a new name has risen to place third.
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, now has 10 percent support in a Fox News poll released Tuesday. He had been in fifth place at 8 percent in the last Fox News poll after having been in third place at 10 percent in Foxs August poll.
The most recent poll showed Donald Trump holding his lead with 24 percent support, while Ben Carson was right behind Trump at 23 percent. No other candidate placed in double digits.
Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., was in fourth at 9 percent. Jeb Bush placed fifth at 8 percent. Carly Fiorina, who received a bump in support after last months debate, was tied with former Ark. Gov. Mike Huckabee at 5 percent. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., had 3 percent support. Other candidates were at 1 percent or less.
Cruz last week said his actions have put distance between him and other members of the Republican pack.
If you look to the records of all the Republican candidates theres a big difference between my record and that of everyone else, Cruz said. If you ask, who has stood up to Washington? Whos taken on not just Democrats, but taken on leaders in their own party? Republican leadership, whether was leading the fight to stop Obamacare? Whether it was leading the fight to stop executive amnesty?
You know at the last Republican debate in California, every Republican candidate stood up there and said, we need to defund Planned Parenthood. But last week, when we had an epic drag down fight in Washington, not one of them showed up, Cruz said.
How can they give Carson a yellow on MORAL issues?
Huck at 5%?
Looks like they polled a lot of evangelicals.
Fair enough.
Despite their flaws, and I think that Trump has more than Cruz, do you agree that both, in no particular order, are the top two choices?

Interesting observation. You’re probably on to something there.
Carson is not at 20%. Cruz is not at 10%.
My take is that Trump is higher than the 28-30% they show him at as well.
There are games afoot here.
Look at that debate last night, 9 million vs 24 million viewers. (approximate)
The Republican debates were up about double. Trump is the reason.
You can’t dismiss the guy, and yet they are doing everything they can to do it.
you have to convert those numbers into PRIMARY voters in order to neutralize any GOPE stunts.
Right now yes. And I trust Cruz more than Trump. If Cruz gets the nomination I don't believe he will change his positions or approach at all. He has battled the RINOs long enough that I am convinced he is a true believer and solid conservative at heart. If Trump wins the nomination I'm scared to death that he will run like mad to the middle and become just like every other wishy-washy GOPe candidate. I'm not saying I think that absolutely will happen but I think it's a reasonable possibility.
I agree, but these polls do influence people.
How many buy into the idea that Trump’s numbers are falling, so think he’s not the go to guy?
How many buy into Carson based on his seeming support?
This stuff matters.
They gifted Fiorina, Cruz, and Carson with momentary status to try to move Trump’s numbers. Now they’ve settled on Carson for the long haul.
The efforts against Trump are disgraceful >IMO.
Huck was at 2% in their poll the end of Sept. when they were pushing Carly/Rubio.
So, if you add that 3% difference to Trump and subtract from Carson and Cruz it would be 27% Trump, 20% Carson, and 7% Cruz which would be much closer to the other polls.
A Free Republic Poll :
How many Donald Trump supporters wont be making Ted Cruz their 2nd choice because he is ; to conservative, to religious, talks to much about God and the Bible.
How many here on Free Republic who are Donald Trump supporters won’t be making Ted Cruz their 2nd choice because is he to much of a * Social Conservative * ?
Answer honestly
Agreed.

You used the ultimate straw man on me just then
By that measure no one can be criticized
Don’t worry, it’s just Shemp Smith, recently returned from a circle jerk...
“I trust Cruz”
I trust him too. He also has the skills needed to win.
Cruz is my primary choice. However, I’ve liked what Jindal has written that I’ve read.
Carson is a good and decent man. I think his idea of limiting government personal help to 10% of national income is important.
Jeb Bush and Donald Trump aren’t intellectually reliable enough to be President. Biden or Hillary would chew them up in a debate.

You’re 100% correct, it is the anti-God squad here that loves Trump.

Alibi, everyone has at least one.

No; she’s not the shoo-in frontrunner but she’s more evil, sinister, duplicitous, criminal, and desperate than any other.
Your chart is BS.
