Donald Trump will not be the Republican nominee for president, Ted Cruz said Thursday, claiming that a majority of the Manhattan real-estate mogul's supporters would end up voting for him instead.
Cruz was asked whether he believed he could beat Trump based on his principles, in an interview with WABC's Rita Cosby that will air on Sunday. "I think that's right. I think in time I don't believe Donald is going to be the nominee and I think in time the lions share of his supporters end up with us," the freshman senator predicted. "And I think the reason is what I was just saying, that if you look to the records of all the Republican candidates there's a big difference between my record and that of everyone else if you ask, who has stood up to Washington?
He continued: "Who's taken on not just Democrats, but taken on leaders in their own party? Republican leadership, whether was leading the fight to stop Obamacare? Whether it was leading the fight to stop executive amnesty? Or actually, just going back to last week. You know at the last Republican debate in California, every Republican candidate stood up there and said, 'we need to defund Planned Parenthood.' But last week, when we had an epic drag down fight in Washington, not one of them showed up."
Cruz, who has declined to criticize Trump, unlike some of his GOP presidential rivals, reiterated that he is "glad" he is in the race and that his candidacy has reflected favorably on his own positions.

Liz is wrong as she appears to be constantly. Cruz had the slogan, “Make American Great Again” when he ran for US Senator. Trump called him later and asked to have that slogan and Cruz agreed to let him have it.
Yeah, that’s precisely what they were telling Cruz when he ran for the Senate, with zero name recognition, and one poll which placed him at -1.
Yet he ended up handily whipping a very popular, rich, self-funded candidate.
And YOU expect Trump to garner mainstream support-—enough to be the nominee.
It isn’t going to happen.
“There’s a vengeful latino “us against them” strain in Cruz.”
You are wrong again. You can be for Trump all you want, but you really should stop making up falsehoods about Cruz.
Ok fine, I’ll accept neither will be the nom than Cruz being it. Cause it’s not going to happen.
“Vengeful Latino?”
Seriously?
Liz, in the past you have had me on your ping list. Please
remove me and don’t ping me again.
We’ll see.
What other explanation you have for your candidate unable to crack 7% in RCP average? NOT RESONATING WITH VOTERS is my explanation.
“Now my standards are superior.....in that insider is a state of mind. And obviously neither Trump nor Cruz nor Carson have that state of mind. Period. Like I said, I like my standard.”
Exactly, thanks for your post.
Why is Cruz polling behind Trump by double digits in TEXAS? Texans know Cruz better than any others. I am shocked Cruz is not leading in Texas.
Cruz used to be, a class act, but it's all over now ... over now.
Well, it’s thirteen months before the election, so I guess Cruz better give up, LOL.
“Why do I feel trump will drop out at the last minute “
I don’t believe that dropping out is in Trump’s nature. He LOVES to win.
So, in the Trumpworld of word definitions, “class act” means only those who lavish praise upon Trump?
A presidential race is no place to be if you can’t stand criticism of your candidate. Maybe you ought to invite your boy to a group meeting of Trump fans...he’d get all the praise and adoration a human could handle.
Oh I see...in other words Texans will know Cruz so much better in 13 months! Texans just do not know enough about Cruz yet! Cruz has something up his sleeve which will be released later.....!
HAHAHAHA....thanks for a good laugh. I need 1 every day. They say a hearty laugh is good for your health.
Why is Cruz polling behind Trump by double digits in TEXAS? Texans know Cruz better than any other candidates!
You sound agitated. Calm yourself.
In the real world it means Cruz launched a first strike against Trump. Cruz was my first choice. I no longer trust him. Cruz is just another failing politician and I no longer want Trump to include him in leadership should we be fortunate enough to get Trump as the nominee and POTUS. Cruz is following Jindal, down, down, down.
Of course.
Like I said - it’s from Politico. Right off the bat, there’s a whiff of horsesh*t coming off of it.
it’s really a cheap ploy to take something intentionally out of context to make your point. Why don’t you just hold up a sign that says I don’t have a point.
Seriously, grown folks don’t do that. Its childish.
Because a poll is selective and can't register the minds of the individual voters in a county. Every state and national election is determined county by county.
When Cruz ran for US Senator, the polls said Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst was going to win, down to the day before the election. Cruz won handily because he was able to contact individual Republican voters in every county and they went to their precinct polling place and voted for Cruz.
That is what you will see happen in the caucus of Iowa, and primaries in every county in New Hampshire, and all other counties in the US.
Have faith Cruz knows what he is doing and has the money to have workers, volunteers and paid, in every county in the country. Every election for state and national candidates are still local. Think about yourself. You live in a county and have a precinct polling place. If you voted in the last Republican Primary, you get personally contacted by a candidate or candidate's worker and the candidate's positions are explained to you, plus you get fliers very often from the candidate with his/her positions in print.
Then, just before election day, you are contacted again to remind you to vote and if you don't have transportation, a worker will come get you and take you to your polling place. That is how a Cruz election happens and the way it happened in Texas. I think it will also happen in every county in this country 'cause Cruz workers will be in every county.
