All signs point to the nation numbing to Donald Trumps shtick. His poll numbers are in a holding pattern and his favorability among Republicans is slipping. His pranks arent as good as they used to be. He isnt tossing out entertainingly insane Trumpisms at the pace he used toor if he is, fewer people are paying attention.
Mr. Trumps ability to command both voter and news media attention simply by being his outlandish, bombastic self is starting to wane, the New York Times reported on Wednesday. The Times points to ebbing social media chatter about Trumps hijinks as well as a dip in mentions and appearances on conservative talk radio shows.
Trumps campaign has lived off a strategy of constant free media exposuresomething he earned, we should note, by expressing many newsworthy opinions that a not-insignificant number of human beings found oddly compelling in a presidential candidate. Thats how he has been able to dominate the race after only spending a couple million dollars of his own money. The problem with Trumps strategy, though, is hes created exceedingly high expectations for himself: Unless he keeps upping the ante of bombast, hes going to see a cratering or even collapse in his media coverage.

The left and the GOPe keep putting out the same articles and editorial pieces where they gleefully and wishfully talk of Trump’s demise and that sooner or later the “nutjob” righties will come to their senses and vote for another GOPe candidate. Wrong. These insiders have no clue as to the anger the American electorate has at the political class, both Republicans and Democrats, or if they do they choose to ignore it. Regardless of how you feel about The Donald, it would be foolish for anyone to start writing this guy off. He’s connected with millions of Americans and they’re biding their time until Iowa. We’re in a doldrum cycle where nothing is really going on. This is not going to be a conventional presidential campaign or election in 2016 where the chosen ones of both party establishments get nominated.
Is Slate going to run out of hubris?
No, he’s not going to run out of money. I won’t be surprised if he runs only so long as he can make money doing it.
Jim Newell must be someone’s unemployable nephew or grandson. No one can be this clueless and get paid for it unless he is “family.”
Ahaha, THIS is the line of attack the Left is going to use?
How would Jim Newell know if someone else is running out of money, since he has never had any personal control of money himself? Maybe someone felt sorry for him and let him hold a dollar bill for a second, and that gave him ideas that he could understand momey.
He gets on TV more than anyone. Just about any time he wants. It costs him nothing.
He can stay in as long as he wants.
This Jim Newell cat is beyond stupid.
Trump’s poll numbers have stalled...really? It’s October. I would say they are in a holding pattern for the next couple of months.
Barring any Trump catastrophic implosion, we can start talking about Trump’s poll numbers in January.
Trump’s numbers are not slipping. There is far more movement in 2-9. You want to see numbers slipping? Look at Hillary’s.
Compared to Hillary Clinton who has spent $47million.
Slate sure is afraid of Trump!!!!
ha!
to make up such BS about Trump... shows their fear.
and that they don’t got nothing on him.
as far as Trump running out of money, there’s less chance of that happening than Hillary winning the Miss America contest for her wonderful congeniality and beauty.
“Is Trump Going to Run Out of Money?”
Is the Pope going to run out of prayers?
Until people get tired of his schtick.
Have you ever seen such a barrage of crap slung against a wall from literally everyone who’s threatened by an outsider like Trump?
Everyone in the media and the GOP are making total asshats out of themselves trying to destroy a decent man who really wants to restore America’s greatness. He doesn’t NEED the shitty job of president. He’s a self made billionaire. He’s tired of his country being dragged under by these evil cretins. I am too.
Modern “journalism” on display. Never let objectiveness get in the way of your agenda.
Trump has shown himself powerful in enough ways that US voters care, that even challenging some conservative orthodoxies hardly makes a dent in his support.
I wish he wasn’t such an enthusiast about eminent domain especially a la Kelo, which is a sore and sensitive spot. (Although personally when Trump has sought it he has been more generous than is common.) Yet when concerns are ranked, would America be willing to sacrifice that in order to get the power that plows a way back to pro-Christian and pro-life? A lot of people would say yes. Get God back into the picture and a lot of ills can be surmounted. It’s fatuous to talk about trying to do ED humanely in a reign of tyrants.
*YAWN*
Articles like this support the idea that all the other Republican candidates are remaining in the race so articles like this can be written.
They won’t because it’s more than schtick, there’s tangible substance.
They are in a tizzy. They expected Bush to have it all locked up already. They would settle for Kasich or Rubio, but not Trump (or Carson).
I’m not wild about Kelo either but I’m pizzed at the SCOTUS not Trump. If he can shag even half the illegals out of here and build a wall and God help us get these horrible refugees back out I will kiss his feet.
