Oregon shooter Chris Harper-Mercer was a 'paranoid' and 'childlike' character who circled his neighborhood on a bicycle and 'freaked out' at the smallest things, former neighbors of the mass killer have revealed.
In one incident the 26-year-old threw a fit when he suspected someone had slashed the tires on his bicycle.
He was so angry that he 'freaked out like it was the end of the world' and screamed profanities at the top of his voice outside his home at an apartment block in Torrance, California.

Laura’s story seems weird to me.
Has a kid in UK. Marries a guy. Separates for a decade or so. Then gets a divorce. Has a special needs kid who needs attention.
Would love to know why she didn’t get a divorce for a decade. I wonder if the father got the divorce because he was going to remarry.
Odd that the attorney sister’s husband didn’t know they were married.

Gary Evans, 62, who was married to Mercer’s aunt, told The Daily Beast in a phone interview that when Mercer came into the world, his birth father was not in the picture.
“They were separated when I first met them, and I don’t believe they ever were married,” Evans said.
The father is Caucasian, Evans said, while Mercer’s mother, Laurel Harper, is black.
Laurel was the second-oldest of four sisters and was raised in Torrance in what Evans described as a “very upper-middle-class” household. When Evans married Laurel Harper’s sister Maribeth back in 1990, Mercer’s mom was just starting to become a nurse.
“I know she went from career to career and then settled on nursing,” he said. “She was working full-time and taking [nursing] classes part-time.”

Maybe it was an immigration thing..or they married for some legal reason due to the kid and health care ...whatever the case..doesn’t seem like a “normal” relationship.

You are correct—these brain altering drugs have their uses—but IMO, they are often used to drug “over active” kids so they will be less of a bother to people around them.
Some kids may do well while taking them, but others can go berserk while on them—and there’s no way to know which kid will react which way.
Whatever happened to sending a child who’s disruptive to the principal’s office, or keeping him after school—or some other punishment?

The gunman has a British father, Ian Mercer, who is aged in his mid-50s and from the north-west of England.
The father, from Lancashire, is believed to have moved to America to live with the killer’s mother, Laurel Harper, who is the second-oldest of four sisters.
Mr Mercer told reporters outside his home he was “as surprised as anyone” at the tragedy.
He said: “Obviously, it’s been a devastating day. Devastating for me and my family. I’m just as shocked as everybody at what happened today.
“I’ve just been talking to the police and the FBI. That’s all the details I have right now, is what you know already.”
Harper-Mercer’s birth was registered in California but he carried a British passport, it also emerged.

The father’s side of the family comes from Preston in the UK although most appear to now live in California. His grandfather Leo, who lives in Lancashire, was unavailable for comment at home because he is in America on holiday.

It has now emerged that his grandfather lives in Preston.
Widower Joe Mercer, known to his friends as Leo, lives in Ingol, Preston, but spends part of his time in the USA.
A neighbour, who does not wish to be named, said: “He will be absolutely devastated if his grandson is responsible.
“After his wife died, he fell apart and he changed. He missed her so much.
“That’s why he goes to America so much, to be with his family. He’s so proud of his family and it will destroy him to think something so dreadful has happened.”
It is believed that Joe and his wife June raised their family, including the gunman’s father Ian Mercer, at the family home in Ingol.
June died in 2011 and after that the grief-striken Joe began spending more time with his family in America.
