WASHINGTON – The Empire strikes back?
First, the Republican Party made Donald Trump sign an oath of loyalty by pledging to support its eventual presidential nominee and not run as a third-party candidate.
Now, the establishment GOP may be planning to do the very thing it made Trump promise not to do: bolt from the Republican party and run a third-party campaign.
Mark McKinnon, former President George W. Bush’s chief media strategist, suggested a scenario to NPR the GOP elite might follow if it looks like Trump will win the party’s presidential nomination.
“The Republican establishment completely freaks out. They get together and say, this is unacceptable, but it looks like it’s going to happen. So we go off, and we create a new Republican Party as an Independent candidacy and draft somebody who’s tanned, rested and ready to go and with a lot of money, somebody like Mitt Romney,” speculated McKinnon.
Former Rep. Steve Stockman, R-Texas, was floored by that.
“I think its absolutely hypocritical and crazy for the moderates to sit there and lecture conservatives about a third party and then turn around and practically advocate that for one of their own,” he told WND.
Stockman pointed out that Republicans don’t come any more moderate than McKinnon himself, considering he was an adviser to Democrats before he was tapped to help elect Bush in 2000.

I voted for him.
A. It was the first Presidential election that I voted. I blame 'young and stupid'.
B. In those days I believed the Media was 'honest' (see 'A.'). As such, I bought the line that Reagan was a moron who was going to get us into a Nuclear War.
C. There was no way in the world I was going to vote for Carter. After his abysmal surrender regarding the American hostages taken by Iran, and having entered work where double digit interest rates and inflation were the norm --- clearly anyone but Carter (once the First, but now the Second worst President in US history)...
After around 4 months in office - I knew Reagan was an excellent choice for President.
It still took me quite a few more years, though, to realize that the Media really was made up of American hating, Godless scum. Had I known that earlier, I'd not have casted my vote for Anderson in the first place.

The Establishment that resented Reagan for running against Ford in ‘76. The Establishment that when Ford beat Reagan at the convention, breathed a sigh of relief because he was 65 and would be gone forever. The Establishment that when Reagan was assured of the nomination in 1980, tried to convince him to choose Ford as his running mate, as a sort of co-presidency. The Establishment that got Bush as Vice-President, and took the party back to the Ford-ites after Reagan was gone. That Establishment. Read George Will’s columns of the period “Reagan can’t win, too extreme, etc.”
We’ve seen this all before. I’m not comparing Trump to Reagan. But the knives will come out for ANYBODY who stands in their way. Reagan had THE PEOPLE behind him, and was therefore able to sidestep them. And it appears at this point, so does Trump.

In one of the videos following the signing Trump can be heard saying something along the lines of ‘yeah, we’ll get one with the right date and sign that’.
They’re parasites. And parasites are gonna do what parasites are gonna do. What else can you say.

Oh, I live in MA. I remember that line from the debate against Kennedy. Romney was totally tone-deaf THEN! 1994 was a MASSIVE republican year. All he had to do was campaign with Bill Weld, who won with 70% of the vote. But he wanted to be Mr. Moderate, never wanting to associate himself with those dirty conservatives. Until he wanted the republican nomination years later, that is. Then he was a “severe conservative.”
We weren’t fooled.
Anderson was a Republican.
Pretty sure the only panic is coming from the crapstain GOP.

Reagan did himself a huge favor by insisting that Anderson be included in the first debate because he was polling over 10% at the time. As you may recall, Carter boycotted and was represented by an empty chair.
Not only would Romney lose, the GOP would lose their base.
