Donald Trump has reached a new high in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.
According to a Monmouth University survey released on Thursday, Trump takes 30 percent support nationally, a four-point gain over the same survey from before the first GOP debate.
Ben Carson is a distant second place in the poll, taking 18 percent support. The retired neurosurgeon has risen sharply in the polls over the past month. He was at only 5 percent support in the same poll from early August.
The rest of the Republican field isnt even in the same ballpark.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) take 8 percent support each, followed by Sen. Marco Rubio (Florida) at 5 percent, and former businesswoman Carly Fiorina and Mike Huckabee at 4 percent a piece.
Scott Walker is in freefall, falling into 8th place with only 3 percent support. The Wisconsin governor was in third place with 11 percent support in the same poll from before the first Republican debate.
Chris Christie, John Kasich and Sen. Rand Paul each sit at 2 percent support.
Trump leads in every ideological category. Hes the preferred choice among Tea Party supporters, and Republicans who identify as very conservative, somewhat conservative, and liberal.

Trump has completely reversed his favorability rating, which in June was only 20 percent positive and 55 percent negative. Hes now at 59 percent positive and 29 percent negative...............Right on Trump!
I don’t understand how Jebbie gets 8%. I want him driven down to zero percent. Even if he’s at 1%, I’ll be angry. How can anybody choose him over the other 16 running?
Trump will be the only nominee at the Republican convention, because no other candidate is going to win 8 or more states.
Maybe THEY don't fit the mold, not Trump??
Trump, Carson, Cruz = 56% of the polling vote, hmmmm.
There still has been no real interviews with a real person at a Jeb Bush event actually giving an honest reason why they support this guy.
Like what normal person is going to actually pull for another Bush to run knowing the last one left office 8 years ago???
” Carly Fiorina and Mike Huckabee at 4 percent a piece.Rubio 5%
Scott Walker is in freefall, falling into 8th place with only 3 percent support. “
LOL....all the FReepers boosting these GOPe whores will soon be silent.
Non-politicans at 48%. That speaks volumes.
Listening to Trump on Rush’s show.
Barring something terrible, The Donald will become our next president.
They've tried interviewing people at Jeb rallies, but they couldn't find one who could speak understandable English.
I sense that the agreement that was done between Trump and the GOP is an effort to come to terms of a peace treaty. The GOP KNOWS he is going to go all the way.
ouch !
Well shazaam!
I really expected Trump to have taken his marbles and gone home.
But, and a big one, he did go and file his financial information.
That changed what I expected from the Donald. I believe his authenticity in running.
My thoughts are that things will tighten up the closer we get to the actual primary voting.
With that said I see Donald Trump winning the nomination.
Barring a total meltdown between now and the convention there is no one remotely close to Trump.
Ted Cruz is the only one who hasn’t fluctuated much, signifying solid grass root support. Something not very many of the other candidates have.
Ted will, sadly, be the number 2 candidate at convention time.
Carson has, reportedly, come out in favor of amnesty.
What that does to his poll numbers remains to be seen.
He may come in a distant third or he may drop much lower.
All said and done, I am predicting Trump and Cruz to be the big dogs at the convention.
Trump should make Jebush ambassador to Haiti.
Jeb made Trump the juggernaut he currently is by being the perfect punching bag.
That’s my prediction.
Who knows what tomorrow will bring.
They speak French in Haiti.
Jeb is a Spanish speaker at home...
And much to the chagrin of the establishment....he has the Mullet aficionado group buttoned up.....
....I see a strategic merger in their future.....
Is Cruz overtaking Bush? Ho, ho! Love it.
Take that BITCHES!
