Attempts by Congress to strip Planned Parenthood of federal funding are destined to fail as long as President Obama is in office, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said.
"We just don't have the votes to get the outcome that we'd like," McConnell said in an interview taped Monday with WYMT-TV, which serves eastern Kentucky. "I would remind all of your viewers, the way you make a law in this country, the Congress has to pass it, and the president has to sign it. The president's made it very clear he's not going to sign any bill that includes defunding of Planned Parenthood so that's another issue that awaits a new president hopefully with a different point of view."
McConnell's comments put him at odds with hard-line members of his own party who are pushing to use the approaching Oct. 1 deadline for funding the federal government as leverage to force Obama and congressional Democrats to defund Planned Parenthood. A series of undercover videos released over the course of the summer has whipped up conservative outrage over the group's practices regarding the harvesting of fetal tissue for research. While federal money is already banned from being spent directly on abortions, Planned Parenthood opponents say Medicaid reimbursements and other federal grants indirectly support the group.

I am sick of these things being tied to govt shutdowns....just put a bill forth that declares Planned Parenthood is using taxpayer funds inappropriately and all funding to their institution will be stopped immediately. Let the Democrats defend the videos showing the atrocities committed by that organization, if nothing else it gets Democrats and Obama on the record with their extremist views a full debate on this issue will have the American people rising up in protest I would not want to be on the wrong side of that issue. Start with Ben Carson’s argument of how the Democrats are at war with what is “inside of women”.
More Senateitis. I’d be making him veto something every day.
the problem as he noted is the boy in the whitehouse who has vowed to veto any bill defunding PP
the raw political power is lacking
McConnell, lets see Kentucky start renaming some of the buildings and so forth that you so diligently sought federal dollars for - better known as pork. MCConnell should be better known as Porky the Pig
It is worse than simple mass murder... baby bodies that come out intact are than subjected to disection how horrible....and yet those same Democrats cry foul when you pour water up a terrorists nose....
What a crock...he and Boehner both said that if only we'd vote for Republicans and give them control of the Senate, then they would hold Obama's feet to the fire.
I really hate these two losers and their enabling cronies.
LET HIM VETO IT.
Or else, he has very little connection to it and it appears that he is just on the sidelines doing his job as best he can. The devious SOB.
Surrendering without a fight. Pathetic.

No Republican Congress will ever do anything to disrupt the lib agenda. They’re either craven cowards or actually aligned with the liberal thought process without admitting so.
I won’t ever vote for any of them again.
Mcconnell is the future former Majority Leader. Buh bye.
Have a Stroke and a smile, Mitch.
Excuses - excuses
raw cowardice.. IN CHARGE.. both houses..
many congress members are NOT cowards..
the fish rots from the head..
At this point, each and every unborn child who's brutally murdered in their mothers womb is the fault of both McConnell and Boehner.
Their deaths are on McConnell's and Boehner's hands.
There was a time when you would put an issue to a vote, even if you knew you didn’t have the votes, because it would put people on record, a record they would have to defend with their constituents. But that’s deemed uncivil in modern DC, where both parties have an unwritten agreement to not put each other on the spot.
And he has the power to bring it up for a vote, shut the Govt down, and get it on prime time TV and make his case with passion. Oops excuse me I mistook him for someone that wasn't gelded and had the fire of righteous indignation to propel him.
The closest we have ever come out this in the Senate was an impassioned debate between Rick Santorum and Diane Feinstein where he got damn near angry and shut her up and a baby cried out in the chamber....
I feel like Diogenes wandering around with a lantern looking for one good man...
Won’t be able to defund PP
Won’t be able to stop the Iran deal
Won’t be able to stop TPP
Won’t be able to stop the destruction of the USA
Won’t be able to keep us from going full commie
This a-hole maneuvered the senate into full compliance with Obola’s agenda.
Don’t “de-fund” it, omit it from the budget.
If you can’t even rouse yourself to oppose chopping heads off of babies and selling them, you have become a tragic and pathetic joke.
And judgement is coming.
Why does the bill have to specifically state PP is defunded? Can’t we just have a bill that doesn’t include it?
