It is tempting to dismiss the latest anti-choice salvo from Ohio lawmakers, which would criminalize abortions based on a fetal diagnosis of Down syndrome, as a blatantly unconstitutional ploy that would never be enforced.
That would be a mistake. The bill stands a disturbingly good chance of approval this fall by the states Republican-controlled legislature
A similar bill passed in North Dakota in 2013 bans abortions on the grounds of fetal genetic anomalies, including Down syndrome. The law has not yet been enforced under existing Supreme Court precedent it is hard to see how it could be but as with so many restrictions on a womans right to choose, that is not the only measure of its power. In fact, a significant majority of women who receive a fetal diagnosis of Down syndrome choose to abort their pregnancy. A smaller percentage choose to carry the fetus to term. In both cases, it is a personal decision.

Listen to your hate. The only place I see Downs syndrome people is at Catholic Mass.
I guess the Protestants abort their Downs babies.
I’m afraid that you’re going to get hammered.
OK, I’ll start.
An estimated 92% of children with Downs Syndrome are aborted. Mostly it’s due to the convenience factor as parents want “the perfect child.”
Some friends of ours adopted a Downs Syndrome baby from Eastern Europe a few years ago. Sure, she’s got her problems. She’s profoundly affected by it.
They think so much about these kids in the former Soviet Union that if they don’t get adopted by five, they get put in a warehouse until they die. Probably a year or two.
That sounds pathetic, but we’re not far behind. 92% is unforgivable. The pure selfishness of that act is amazing.
92% is unforgivable
Do you need a translation?
Well, our friends who adopted are evangelicals and they bring her to their church. We’ve got several kids with Down’s or similar maladies at our small church, so much so that they have a special Sunday School class for them.
Your argument would be wrong
No. I can read it OK. But 60,000 RM for a booklet? Must have been in Weimar money.
BTW, for some odd reason I suspect that you tenure here may be soon to end ...
If you could, though, you'd find the authors agreeing with you.
Nice company you keep, Josef.
OK, I just looked up another article. The 92% was based on a study of Europeans, not US. The best US numbers that this new study found was well north of 60%, which is still selfish and too high.
BTW, for some odd reason I suspect that you tenure here may be soon to end ...
Nice.
I feel sorry for anyone you seem to care about.
Supposedly there are less than 200,000 little people living in the US today. I’ve seen places claim the abortion rate for them is around 90%.

Regardless of one’s stance on abortion, it does seem kind of ridiculous that you can kill a perfectly healthy baby for whatever reason you want, but an unhealthy one is protected. Why don’t the healthy babies deserve the same protection?
2nd, if that 90% Down babies are aborted number is true, and pro-lifers/pro-choicers are 50/50 of the population then that means there’s a whole lot of pro-lifers that are changing their tune once once they find out it’s their baby who is as they put it “is less than perfect”.
Your German is clearly even worse than mine. Let me help:
“60,000 RM — [that’s what] this hereditary sick person costs the people’s community. Citizens! This is also your money! Read ‘Neues Volk’ — the monthly magazine of the racial policy office of the NSDAP”
No. Protestant here. Did not. So shut your piehole until you get some decency on your face.
BIL & SIL are Catholic. I don’t want to be like them. Thanks, but no thanks. Believe me, she would SIG HEIL & flush a Down’s baby in a NY minute in my opinion. She’s one cold Kraut heifer.
I’m 69. Life’s hard. Then you die. MARANATHA! (I’ve one miscarried baby, one Downs baby & one 49 yr. old “normal” son). The two deceased babies; I’ll see them again!
“anti-choice...”
Whenever you read this made-up Newspeak term, run. (BTW, you make some reasonable points.)
Sadly, that seems to be true.
“The only place I see Downs syndrome people is at Catholic Mass.”
There are regulars who come to our local YMCA.
There is nothing wrong with them that deserves a death sentence.
