WASHINGTON Hillary Clintons campaign said Wednesday that emails on the private server she used when she was secretary of state contained material that is now classified, the clearest explanation thus far of an issue that has roiled her bid for the presidency.
At the same time, the campaign sought to play down the disclosure by saying the material had been retroactively classified out of an abundance of caution by U.S. intelligence agencies.
She was at worst a passive recipient of unwitting information that subsequently became deemed as classified, said Brian Fallon, a spokesman for Mrs. Clintons campaign.
Mrs. Clinton has been criticized for using a private email server when she was in office. Since 2013, the server was maintained by a small Denver company and stored at a secure data center in New Jersey until it was turned over to the FBI last week. Her use of the server has prompted an FBI counterintelligence investigation.

A Clinton lied? I’m shocked to hear this. Shocked.
Seems to me she knew way less about how to “run something” (a stated goal of her’s) than anyone thought.
Has she ever explained why she wanted to use her own server in the first place? Unless she wanted to sneak around government oversight, I cannot think of why anyone would want to do so.
When she wiped her server she didn’t expect the “Spanish Inquisition”.

CBS: Hillarys computers were unsecured, too
http://hotair.com/archives/2015/08/20/cbs-hillarys-computers-were-unsecured-too/
All the work the enemy has put in to destroying us is beginning to be exposed and brought down and hopefully ..... all the people still alive brought down WITH it.
Her press conference responses to Ed Henry were the real Hillary, including the frustrated arms in the air responses, and the after the talking stop and snark back at the crowd.
This is what some feel is worthy of being President ????????
“Mr. Boian said the Clinton server was picked up at the Clintons home in New York and moved to a secure data center in New Jersey, where it operated until last week. He said the computer was operational when Platte River took possession of it”
DeCamillis referred most questions about the specifics of the companys relationship with the Clintons and the actual setup of the server to Andy Boian, a public relations manager brought on last week to help Platte River deal with its newfound fame.

No clearance
How Platte River was selected is one of a number of unanswered questions about how Hillary Clinton chose to safeguard records that, it is now clear, included sensitive information.
The intelligence communitys inspector general has said that two of the e-mails contained top-secret material, the highest level of classification, and should not have been stored on a private server. State Department officials have said that hundreds more could contain classified material.
[What you need to know about Hillary Clintons e-mails]
DeCamillis said that the company has undergone various background checks for clients in the past but that he did not think any of its employees held formal government-issued security clearances.
A spokeswoman for an agency within the Defense Department that vets companies for security clearances said her office has not extended one to Platte River Networks.
DeCamillis also said the company has never had a federal government contract. He said the company has about 300 clients and offers full-time services to about 100 of them, 85 percent of which are located within an hour of the companys Denver office.
He said the company employs a number of security measures to protect the data of its customers, including a firewall and anti-virus software. We treat every customer with the same level of technical expertise, security and redundancy, he said.
Platte River representatives have said the company took Clintons server from her Chappaqua, N.Y., home in June 2013, transferring it to a secure facility in New Jersey.
Last week, an attorney for the company said the server was blank when it was turned over to the FBI. Attorney Barbara Wells also said that at one point, data from the server was migrated to another server for the purpose of making the transition to Platte River.
But Boian, the public relations manager, said he could no longer be confident that Wellss information about the server being blank had been accurate.
He added: I dont have any information that the server was wiped. Nor do I have any information to suggest it wasnt. ... The information I have for sure is that the server itself, when it migrated from Chappaqua to the data center, it was installed at the data center and left alone.
Her surrogates actually had the gall at one point to float the trial balloon that a private server was MORE secure because the government systems were hacked.
I don't know how many more she can sustain.

This rates up there with whatever the definition of “is” is ....
Jesus, someone get these people off the stage!!!
Is there a Freeper that could make a Bullshit Alert that can accompany these threads. Not only does the story change several times per day but different people(spokesman) relate the new BS. Thus Hillary has actually never commented at all.
Farrell said he has not seen evidence that anyone associated with the former secretary of state removed classified documents from secure networks and then rewrote the classified information into the private email account, or removed classification markings from secret material.
However, he said he believes that the FBI will be investigating that possibility.
What I have seen is the excerpting and maybe verbatim copying of classified information, he said, adding that the nature of the information describes is clearly SCI material.
Farrell said his investigation of the matter indicates that Clinton aides likely read classified documents and then digested and excerpted the material into the unclassified email system.
‘Watchdog: Two National Security Laws Appear Broken in Clinton Email Scandal’
Platte River was probably selected on the basis of being worthless, ignorant and insignificant peons that could serve as an unwitting scapegoat without having to sacrifice a loyal servant or damage any political connections. Note the timeline - it was way after anything significant was done on that email system.
The Great Pumpkin might want to have that pantsuit handy.
Does cursing up a storm while throwing a lamp at your husband's head count?
I mean ... How can information suddenly change from unclassified to classified once it leaves the originator .... If it’s classified, it’s classified, is it not?
If she didn’t do anything wrong, why did she destroy the evidence???
At the same time, the campaign sought to play down the disclosure by saying the material had been retroactively classified
Relative to the above quote:
The Inference: The subject matter discussed in the Hillary emails was unclassified at the time of the email generation.
The Very Likely Facts of the Matter: The subject matter was classified, in some cases at at the TS/SCI level, prior to the generation of the Clinton emails. There was nothing "retroactive" about the documents that Hillary and Company were reading and utilizing in the emails that they were composing. Some of those emails either quoted directly or referenced that already classified information.
Don't let Hillary get away with this. Don't let her off the hook.
You can't "retroactively classify" a Hillary email until you've read it. That's what is actually being referenced here. The IG and the Intelligence Community are in the process of classifying those emails. Is that "retroactive classification"? I guess it is in some sense - but not in the sense that Hillary want's us to believe in. And it doesn't change the fact that the information in those emails was classified prior to their generation.
