AIKEN, SC (WFXG) - According to Savannah River Site officials, a potential security event is in progress that has triggered emergency response activities at the Department of Energys Savannah River Site.
Site barricades are currently closed to incoming traffic. There is no indication of a consequence beyond the Savannah River Site boundaries.
WFXG has a reporter on the way and will update you as we learn
the new Rio Grande ???
I have worked at that site. I always wondered if it was vulnerable.
Aiken SC is just across the river from the Augusta Golf Course, home of the Masters. They better not screw that venue up.
SC Ping
People fleeing the taxes of Georgia!
My ex-wife worked as a Hanford Patrol officer in the 80’s and 90’s and they had all of the toys at their disposal. Even with their inside knowledge of the vulnerability of each installation they could not penetrate their own defenses during simulated incursions.
.... Probably some rotten food in the vending machine.
Nuclear clean up. What could go wrong with clean up?
Did they discover something they didn’t expect?
For those of us in other parts of the country, what is the Savannah River Site?
Used to make our nukes.
Now they do nuclear research and cleanup.

Southern Company, parent company for Georgia Power releases statement:
Monday, August 17, 2015
WAYNESBORO, Ga. (WRDW) — Southern Company, the parent company for Georgia Power who runs Plant Vogtle, released a statement saying:
“Southern Nuclears top priority remains the safety and health of the public and our employees. Nuclear energy facilities are the most secure civilian industrial facilities in the nation with many layers of security measures in place at each facility, which includes the security checkpoint at the entrance to our plant. We have no plans to make any changes to our current security measures.”
Next time, they need to seal their bomb in with Tyvek - three times.
You can beat the dogs, but you have to go the extra mile for the customer to do it.
