Trump: You Will Know that He has Gone Too Far When Ted Cruz Criticizes Him Directly
National Review ^ | 08/09/2015 | Rich Lowrey

Posted on 08/10/2015 8:15:45 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

People are again predicting his demise. The widely admired Megyn Kelly is definitely a riskier target for him than John McCain was. But since an enormous amount of his appeal is based on saying outrageous things and not apologizing for them, it’d be foolish to think that anything that has transpired since Thursday will sink him.

I wouldn’t be surprised, though, if the debate and its aftermath check or reverse the progress he’d been making in the internals of the polls (higher favorable ratings, fewer Republicans saying they’d never consider voting for him, etc.).

I basically only have one barometer for whether Trump has gone too far–and that’s when Ted Cruz is willing to criticize him directly. We haven’t reached that point yet.

I take Andy’s point about how all the other candidates are making their own calculations how to respond to Trump, too, but the gentle treatment Cruz affords the mogul is especially noteworthy given how eager he usually is to attack other Republicans and the fact that Trump has the most flagrantly RINO record of anyone in the field. So I don’t doubt that he shamelessly changed the subject as Alexis said, because this is something he really, really doesn’t want to have to address for now. (And as a general matter, I appreciate Alexis’s robust coverage of the flap that consumed the political world this weekend).

More broadly, it’s pretty clear where the drift of this thing is heading, which is not toward Trump winning the nomination, but toward Trump somewhere along the way saying he’s been treated unfairly — by the GOP, by the media, by Jonah Goldberg, et al. — and declaring next year that he’s seriously considering an independent bid. Even if he didn’t ultimately pull the trigger, it would guarantee another couple of months of attention for Donald Trump, which is the only thing that matters for Donald Trump.

Cruz simply can not win.

On the contrary. Cruz is one of the few people that can win.

The Uniparty will treat Cruz just as badly as they are treat Trunp. But Cruz does not have the resources, connections, experience or savvy that Trump has. “

The Uniparty has been treating Cruz much much worse than they have ever treated Trump and for far longer. Trump is a Johnny come lately to being attacked by the Uniparty.
Second, in interviews with the toughest, most hostile Lamestream media hatchet men/women, Ted Cruz has come out vastly better than than Trump. None of them has been able to lay as much as a glove on Ted Cruz.

So then treat Trump fairly and stick to the issues.

No more Megyn Kelly BS.

No more Fox not being fair and balanced, pushing media lies.

No more Republicans out to get him.

Concentrate on the issues and let Trump and all the other candidates succeed or fail honestly on the issues.

When someone jumps in with just the right position on all the hot button issues, you know that the message was crafted by a skillful political manager.

(or maybe you don’t I suppose)

They will go after Cruz tooth and nail

They already have on multiple occasions and now they're gunshy.

I think he got the best of Graham, Perry, Bush and some of the others who have attacked him. He is still in the lead for now and they are not. I would say he bested them. Maybe we do have different definitions?

Rich Lowry is a scum-sucking slimey snail. This article is nothing more than his way of taking a hit at Cruz through Trump, neither of whom are Lowry’s GOPestablishment bosses’ picks for president. But then Lowry’s been a scum-sucker for a while.

Bill O’Reilly Harvey highest rated show on cable news for 10 years. That doesn't mean he was “widely admired”. Same with Megan Kelly.

Exactly. The GOPe would love to force Cruz’s hand on this, I hope and believe that he’s too smart to fall into their stupid trap.

Yes, NR doesn’t even try to hide the fact that they’re owned by the GOPe.

Nor will they ever!

His book lays out every stumble he ever made in his life, so no one can ever lay a gotcha on him.

Cruz is a master political intellect that has been hiding in the shadows of a little known judicial job.

And I don’t recall the GOPe playing by that rule when they did such things as smear Chris McDaniel as a racist to Democrat primary voters in MS in order to get them to vote in the run-off for Thad Cochran. They only trot that rule out when it works for them.

Cruz was a coward in the debates. He didn’t stand up for himself and demand respect from the snotty bitch. He lost points with me because to stand up for America and Americans will take guts, fast thinking, and a spine.

I take it from your post yesterday that Cruz didn't have any CodeToad points to lose at the start of the debate.

Cruz should get out there and separate himself from Trump, imho.

On the issues, yes.

Quale, North, Newt, Sarah, Mechelle, Dorin, etc, etc, etc. The Uniparty is very good at taking out the opposition, underestimate them at our own peril. But happily Trump has taken all their shots and he is still on his feet. So until Trump goes down you boy Cruz is safe.

I suspect those ratings may take a hit. I watched her when she first started out, but as time went by I realized she was just another attention seeker - constantly trying to be cute and funny. So much into herself - boring.

Cruz has guts and uses them when it counts, such as standing up to a lying senate majority leader.
