Donald Trump: Resistance Leader
The Huffington Post ^ | 07/12/2015 5:32 pm EDT | Bill Schneider

There's a reason why Donald Trump is stirring up the Republican race. The Republican Party has become a resistance movement, and Trump is leading the resistance.

What it's resisting is the rise of the New America. That's the coalition of groups that were historically marginalized: immigrants, racial and religious minorities, gays, working women, single mothers, young people and "unchurched" Americans with no religious affiliation.

It's a coalition united by a commitment to diversity and inclusion. And deeply opposed to symbols of exclusion like the Confederate flag, hostility to immigrants and homophobia. The coalition is growing in numbers as the U.S. becomes more racially diverse, women become more independent, gays come out of the closet and more people lose their religion.

The New America came to power with the nation's first African-American President. President Obama's legitimacy is under constant challenge -- most prominently by Donald Trump, who has never given up disputing Obama's legal qualifications to serve.

I appreciate the words and attention Trump is giving to the illegal immigration issue, but I still have deep reservations about his overall motives and it’s still not clear what his core ideology is. He’s taken quite a few positions in the not too distant past that put him squarely in liberal territory. That’s why I don’t trust him.

There are many here on FR that agree with the GOPe media infrastructure that Trump is a Democrat plant who is intent upon ensuring Clinton's election.

What say ye?

I guess that if one or two (who knows, maybe even three) constitute "many" then you are correct. As it stands, I think they are bat-shit crazy - same as those who knee-jerk over perceived flaws with Walker and who make overhead statements of derision with no meat or logic to back them up.......

“...For the most part, folks who wanted to succeed COULD succeed—at least better than any other nation in recorded history...”

Operative words - “wanted to succeed”.

Spot-on comment.

If Trump were taking out Cruz and (to a lesser extent) Walker, we might buy into the conspiracy theory.

Trump has been a gift to the MSM. Even when his views are correct, he has a tendency to present them in outlandish ways that make it easy for the media to present the Republicans as the Ridiculous Party. The MSM goal isn't to demoralize conservatives; the goal is to make the Mushy Middle far too embarrassed to swing to the right in this election.

I would bet a million dollars Reagan would not have contributed to Anthony Weiner, Kirsten Gillebrand, or Sen Meñendez. People better wake up.

If you’ll follow the whole conversation you’ll I’m not keen on Trump much at all. Walker and Cruz are my top choices.

I was just discussing the reasons for Trump’s sudden relevance. When it was pointed out that the attention span of a regular non-political person is about the same as an 8 year old who’s had too much chocolate, I agreed that was a reason.

If Donald Trump turns out to be a democrat plant, maybe conservatives have it coming.

My thoughts exactly. Who gets an epiphany on some many issues at the same time?

Young people are part of this ‘new’ coalition of ‘new’ Americans....what’s left angry old white men? That is what is being said.

Working women? That doesn’t fit with the party of we give free stuff to those who sit on their behinds and live off the taxpayers/people who work.

Donald the Democrat plant who is kicking democrat butt? Frankly anyone who believes Trump is a democrat plant, is an idiot! Trump is championing conservative ideas that everyone else running is too afraid to champion. The Democrats, the MSM, leftists and Jeb/Hillary camp are railing against Trump, they want him to go away and die. Some FReepers are dumber than a Whoopie Goldberg sockpuppet.

Trump has spoken on 15 issues in last 10 days by my count. Another no information comment that he is a single issue candidate. Illegals pouring across border has been his main issue and it is an important issue all the politically correct GOP cowards ran from.

Trump fears for the future of our country and is angry enough to do something about it. Those who oppose him I have no respect for. Trump has not been a perfectly pure conservative in the past I know but he is walking the talk now. How friggin dumb to oppose the only one championing the very issues conservatives want championed? The voters are fearful and angry too and see Trump as the only one they can trust to fight for them and the future of this country. But, it is not too late for any other candidate to also get loud and champion these issues. What is stopping them? No more excuses for the GOPe chumps who are all fighting for political correctness and the totally corrupt Republican party!

That's it isn't it. He speaks to the people, and is one the average joe or jane will stop and watch. Two important points.

none of the other candidates have that cache.

It is not serious to have this cartoon character Trump as the Tea Party resistance leader.

That's just the drivel of a leftist writing for the Huff Post. I don't favor Trump for the GOP nomination, and I've already posted that he could go third party, which could be a disaster for the GOP nominee.

But he does deserve some credit for leading on the immigration issue, and hopefully, perhaps taking Trump's cue, the eventual GOP POTUS nominee will have a tougher stance on border security and illegal alien infiltration than most Republicans in Washington currently have.

I keep saying it and I think Trump is coming along but, IMHO, Trump needs to make the lying media the issue. Illegals, whatever, these are just different examples. In a Sun Tzu sense Trump has to significantly alter the battlefield the media has carefully shaped. No more flag burning, war on women, queer marriage distractions. Simple message that all Americans can see for themselves. The media is lying and covering for corrupt politicians. No party affiliation there. Win, win. All it takes is for one guy who can’t be bought to speak the truth we can all see. I doubt anyone is more surprised than Trump at what has happened. America has been dying for a lack of integrity. What irony that a Trump could be the one to restore it.

I recall reading a “journalists” report of an interview with Trump a year or so back. The story was bizarre. I didn’t care about Trump so I wasn’t all that interested but the thing that stuck was that he is a nudist, essentially. We all have our foibles and a guy like him could just let his eccentricities go to town but the description struck me as sort of a (somewhat, I guess) monogamous Hugh Hefner. Sort of a decade or so short of Howard Hughes recluse.

Anyway, point being, at the moment Trump isn’t the issue and the morons in the media haven’t even figured this out. Attacking him won’t accomplish anything because folks supporting him don’t care and don’t trust the folks who are trying to hurt him. In fact the more they attack him the more support he will get. Trying to trash him with accusations of infidelity or whatever probably won’t touch him either. Billy Jeff can be thanked for that. I doubt they could stop him by killing him. His supporters could stuff the body and just keep on. The Bentham Society ring any bells? Hell, dead he could probably be even better. LBJ sure had no problem wheeling out JFK when it suited. I do think Trump has started something. It is like the Rats, the enemedia, and the GOPe have suppressed the hopes and dreams of hundreds of millions of Americans and Trump took a wrecking ball to that carefully constructed dam and now the flood is coming. I do not think it can be stopped. Not even by Trump himself.
