I's hard to think of a more bizarre story, or one more representative of contemporary America, than that of Rachel Dolezal. Dolezal is an academic and activist who represented herself as African American for many years, earning a degree in Africana studies, even ascending to the position of president of the Spokane, Wash., chapter of the NAACP.
As police killings show, the African American community needs more change As police killings show, the African American community needs more change Dolezal's parents, however, have recently made matters uncomfortable for her, telling the media that she is in fact Caucasian and showing photos of her as a younger woman with blond hair and blue eyes. The NAACP is standing behind Dolezal, stressing that racial identity is not a qualifying criteria or disqualifying criteria for NAACP leadership. But there are additional questions regarding, among other things, her position on a local police council. When applying to the Spokane police ombudsman commission, she indicated a racial category of black, which if untrue would violate the city ethics code.
Dolezal, for her part, acknowledged that her biological parents are two self-identified Caucasians, but has thus far refused to elaborate.
The story has predictably been catnip to our pundit class, provoking commentary ranging from the outraged to the sympathetic to the amused. Almost everyone, however, has been shocked shocked that someone would act this way and shocked that someone could pull it off. I am shocked that people are shocked. Rachel Dolezal was inevitable. We made her.

If she says she’s black, she’s black. (sarcasm), Rick Santorum said something about this about Jenner.
Didn’t MLK want everyone judged not by the color of their skin but the content of their character?
I’m not saying he was a great man, but might things have been different if he survived?
i know nothing of his politics so i could be completely wrong.
Frankly, I’d be more worried about that fake affirmative action Injun from Massachusetts.
Rick Santorum would welcome an endorsement from Rachel Dolezal.
I thought Rachel was his running mate?
We must take this to the logical end.
The left is redefining words to whatever they want.
We can too.
Words can mean whatever we want them to. We can redefine whatever we don’t like. Take it to its logical absurdity. Make them own their own fallacies.
Who are they to redefine words so that they like them. Who the hell are they to redefine concepts to be things they never were?
Who made them our moral authority that must be obeyed?
Who the eff are they?
They think the biggest virtue is condemning Christians and traditional values. Who the hell are they that their moral system is the only one everyone must live by, else be fined, jailed, beaten, threatened.
They live by a hypocritical system that cannot stand scrutiny. That is why they try to crush anyone opposed. Who the eff are they?
Ask them. Why is homosexuality just as good as heterosexuality? Because you say so? Who the hell are you? Where do you get that moral belief from? The homosexual activists? Of course they will say that. Show me how whatever you believe has any clout, when you push moral relativism. Moral relativism means nothing is wrong except absolutism, (which just refutes relativism), so morals are really just personal preferences, and who the hell are they to force people to live under their personal preferences?
Why should we listen to them? It doesn’t matter how many people are for something or against something. When their numbers are minority they force it on us and say they are right and numbers don’t matter, when their numbers are a majority they force it on us and say they’re right because more people think like them. Whatever works. End justifies the means.
Who the hell are they? When did they become everybody’s moral consciences? Reject them at the core.
Phew! Who could get through this stew of political correctness, racial hatred and academic jargon! How do people like this actually get published?
..... Heck ..... My grandfather once told me he met a Nazi once who said he was pure and just.
.... Guess not all Nazis were all that bad eh?
...... Yup ....
Take that language to Stormfront.
That's kind of true. Did some quick research. People self-identifying as black can be from as little as 1% black to almost 99%. There's no definition of how much black ancestry it takes to be black.
Would anyone be shocked if a "black" passed as white for preference or advantage? Unwittingly, this woman might have achieved a lot of good. She has exemplified the absurdity of affirmative action.
With Dolezal having such obvious European characteristics -
You'd think there would've been at least a modicum of suspicion and someone would've vetted her.
I think you missed the point.
