If you can choose your gender, why not have the ability to choose your race?
That appears to be the argument shaping up to explain the bizarre case of NAACP Spokane, Washington chapter president Rachel Dolezal, whose parents have gone public with the fact that she was born blond and blue-eyed.
Rachel Dolezal, the president of the Spokane, Washington, NAACP, is being accused of falsely portraying herself as a black woman, CBS News' Adriana Diaz reports.
Her biological parents claim she is misrepresenting "major portions of her life," including being born white. As the city's mayor says it has opened an investigation and is gathering facts to determine if any city policies were violated, Dolezal is denying these accusations.
"Actually, I don't like the term African-American; I prefer black. So, if asked, I would say, yes, I consider myself to be black," Dolezal said to Spokane affiliate KREM.
But Dolezal's biological parents say that's just not true.
"Our daughter is primarily German and Czech and of European descent," her mother said.
Her parents, Ruthanne and Larry, live in a rural home in Troy, Montana.

Hey thats great... we can now ‘identify’ with whatever race we choose and make up a new _____phobe word to go along with it.
The liberals now find themselves in a pickle...
They can strip this woman of her title and continue to recognize people of different race,
or they can embrace her ‘identified race’ and create a war on race like they have the war on gender. By doing that, they would have to eliminate all affirmative action and all ‘white privilege’ horsecrap.
Well there is surgery and drug treatments to darken skin pigments, such as what happened to Josh Solomon, who was born white but decided to get a combination of added pigment treatments and some changes to his face to become black.
I think I’m going to be an native indian, I’ll get in to Harvard Law and Wharton School of Business and then go open a casino somewhere.
Now:
1st question: Is she no longer blond and blue-eyed? Specifically: Did she have her eye-color changed?
2nd question: Why did her parents choose to "go public?"
