May 27, 2015 Loretta Lynch's Justice Department unsealed a 47-count indictment Wednesday morning laden with racketeering, corruption and conspiracy charges against 14 people associated with FIFA, the world soccer association, and international soccer organizations.

Am reading some EU news outlets, and they seem to think that its also due to Russia having been awarded the 2018. US State Dept. lobbied FIFA hard to rescind the award, but they did not.
Probably not, since most people in this country don't care about soccer. Outside the U.S., that's a different story.
“Maybe the Brazilians, Dutch, French, and others should start bringing lawsuits against the NCAA, NFL, and NBA for assorted misdeeds? “
Yeah, and when they do, we will find out about it from the British Tabloids.
Frankly, you got it right. It is a DISTRACTION to what really matters right now.
This strikes me as a way to accomplish two things, the wonder and splendor of a global lawyery order with Dudley Do-Wrong at the fore, and the ousting of the incumbent Swiss in favor of the Jordanian Prince.

I think there was an Arab country that was going for hosting the FIFA World Cup, but not sure though.
Russia simply had the city, Stochi, ready to be the host.
As I said in post 47, there was an Arab country which wanted to host the 2018 games and Russia got it instead.
Qatar was awarded the 2022 WC controversially, as temperatures there would make it impossible to play over the summer, and the move to winter dates drastically disrupts the major domestic leagues (most leagues play Fall through Spring; the US’s MLS is an oddity in going Spring to Fall).
A host country needs more than one venue - there are typically 6-8 used, so it wasn’t just Sochi. The US objection to Russia’s award was originally based on suspicion of fraud/bribery, and then doubled-down after the Ukraine invasion.
This was long underway before anyone heard of Loretta Lynch. But they can heap all the bad PR on her they want. OK by me.
CONCACAF is clearly a violation of the Confusing and Indecipherable Acronyms Act of 1928.
To me, soccer has always been an odd sport. When Brazil had the games last year, I had only checked in briefly and only because the USA was in it.
How about the Clintons or their foundation?
Thing of it is, worse things could happen than handing leadership of big soccer over to Jordan. The thing that grates is the micromanaging nature of the timing in something that means a lot to a lot of people, that doesn’t mean a lot to us.
I wouldn’t say “just launched”, 47 count indictments take years to build, especially if it’s crossing international boundaries. This probably dates back to at least Mukasey.
Going after crime is fine, by all means. What is not cool is mucking about with the politics when we could give a crap. This will reflect dishonorable on the whole country.
The counts go all the way back to when the World Cup was here. And remember we do participate in FIFA.
Nothing like a creating a bunch of enraged soccer fans to start your new job!..............
It’s coming, bet on it!.................
NFL gave up their exempt status a couple months ago.
