I Don't Need No Daddy
Americanthinker.com ^ | 5-18-2015 | Eileen F. Toplansky

It's been a troubling semester, but not because many of my students passively and/or actively resist the knowledge that I try to pass on to them.  It's been frustrating not merely because government regulations and mandates have made me into a secretary filling out a myriad of online forms.  It's been disheartening not only because leftist propaganda surrounds me and I am but one small voice in the academic desert trying to teach true American core values.

No, it's been a sad and sometimes heartbreaking semester because many college students' assorted troubles are related to the fact that they are bereft of wholesome father figures.  The combination of resentment, hurt, anger, and defiant pride run through their writings.  It affects everything they do, from having trust issues with the opposite sex to taking direction from anyone they view as an authority figure.  Most carry an enormous chip on their shoulders and take offense at the slightest thing.

Now that I am older I see that you no longer hold that title for me to call you dad.  Your absence in my life did not hurt but definitely helped me.  I do not hold you accountable for your actions of only conversating with me through a Hallmark card and an $100 check on the inside to make it seem as though as if that was to help my mother or help me.  Growing up I would always question where were you on important days like birthdays, Christmas and my birthday or even my 8th grade prom.

Lots of immature ego around as well. Pants up, don’t loot.Lots of immature ego around as well. Pants up, don’t loot.

This is a perfect example of an ID that was never 'put in check' by the 'super-ego', because there was never one developed by the 'Dad'.....

A lot of ego around those incidents of resisting arrests and bad outcomes IMO.

The moral of the story is, don’t have unprotected sex until you are married. Then stay married.

Oh, you are so "old fashioned".

The next thing you are likely to say is if people paid attention to the clear lessons on life and morality in The Bible, the world would be a lot better and saner place to live and they would be a lot happier in their personal and societal lives!

Thank you. I thought I was the only one to be moved by the plight of these young people. Regardless of how they craft their essays, their pain and depression speaks volumes. This is a lost generation.

I’m learning some dog training recently, and an observation in one article jumped out at me.

“Rank violations within a pack are handled subtly, but respect violations are handled quickly and violently.”

This is EXACTLY the behavior we see in the “urban” culture.

The “slow walk” in front of a car - subtle rank imposition.
The beatdown when the driver honks - violent respect violation punishment.

The speaking loudly in public places - rank imposition.
Beatdown for being called on it.

Littering intentionally in front of someone else.
Racial comments as you walk by.
etc.

I suspect it’s more a matter of how many trips to the tanning booth.

It is interesting to read the difference between the daughter who's father died and the ones who's fathers were walk away joes.

One is sad but has a memory of being loved and a continuing love of her father.

The others are just sad and angry.

I have occasionally heard guys say that only the mother is important in the first few years and that dads should only be involved later. Yet here is a young lady who only had her father for the first five years of her life and yet because he was involved with her it has influenced her life for the better.

Please keep in mind there is a vast difference to a child losing a father to war and a child losing a father to indifference.

The father who is never there and doesn’t want to be around because he is busy whoring around does enormous amounts of damage to his biological children.

Children in tis situation ask themselves ‘ what is it about me that my father hates? Surely, if he didn’t hate me he would visit me, be there for me ‘ etc.

I have been through this first hand. Its awful and can take a life time to overcome.

same here.

The article is deeply depressing. One wonders who these children might have become if they had a responsible father in their lives.

I heart goes out to the young girls without fathers growing up.

The amount of damage done by these men who refuse to be there for their children is horrific.

Littering intentionally in front of someone else.

I live on a cul-de-sac, with 5 homes on it. The center home is a rental property, the other 4 are homeowners. The middle of the cul-de-sac is a green area with trees and grass that is supposed to be maintained by the county, but isn't, so I and sometimes my neighbors mow it and keep the trees and bushes trimmed so that it looks really nice.

The rental property is rented to a black man that has a lot of friends come over and they sit on the carport to all hours of the night drinking and making loud noise and cars constantly going and coming. They throw their beer cans and bottles in the green area and litter it with candy wrappers, potato chip bags and other trash that I have to pick up and my yard when the wind blows it into my bushes. My wife tells me that he will walk to the convenience store down on the corner, buy a honeybunn and fountain soda, drink and eat them on the way back, all the while talking on his obamaphone, and throw the wrapper and cup and straw down in the street or in the green area and just keep on waling, even though there is a trash can right beside the road in front of our houses.............

That is actually ‘ID’ on display, not the ‘ego’, as defined by Freud. The id is the unorganized part of the personality structure that contains a human’s basic, instinctual drives. Id is the only component of personality that is present from birth. It is the source of our bodily needs, wants, desires, and impulses, particularly our sexual and aggressive drives.

Since the paternal ‘father figure’ is absent in most of these young peoples’ lives, the ‘super-ego’ was never properly developed to suppress the id.................

We had some people who went through our property to get to a job site. Every day they threw out their trash as they drove through us. I finally got sick of it and I started picking it up and dropping it in a pile at their job site while they were not there. They caught on very quickly and stopped littering without a word being spoken.

I don’t know if this would be the right tactic for you to use but it sure worked for us.

I’ll bet that your neighbor is trashing the rent house. Does the owner of the property know?
