As reported in January the time has come. Uh, shouldn't it really be up to the owner of the business to decide if they are smoke free or not? Or does this just relieve them of responsibility for the rule? And we have noticed a lot more anti-smoking angry people lately. They get even more agitated the more they drink. But that's okay that they are getting wasted and become more and more belligerent as the booze flows. Probably fine with pot as well even though it is "smoking" too. Next time someone makes a comment to me about my cigarette while they're downing a couple of shots, maybe I should reply "That's okay 'cause I don't like booze."

I think a group of business owners has gathered to sue the city over this ordinance.

“This is one of the smokiest bars in town,” said Steve Zweibaum, speaking to the New York Times from one local bar. “I know a bunch of people who don’t come in here because of the smoke. Maybe they’ll come back.”

You would think someone would have been bright enough to open some nonsmoking bars and gotten rich. /s

My son is a professional musician and I love the fact that bars ban smoking. He never smoked and after performing in a bar that does have smoking he would hardly be able to talk.

Drinking booze doesn’t bother anyone but the drinker (as long as they don’t drive) but smoking bothers everyone in the room. Smokers don’t seem to get that........but I think that bar and restaurant owners should be able to decide. This really surprises me about NO. Never thought they would do this.

Feh! Surely you jest!

That's not their business! They didn't build that!

In California, a lot of bars closed when they had to become non-smoking. People just went home. And non-smokers were not spending and showing up enough to be profitable. My husband and I had a favorite place to go, despite the smoke. It’s parking lot was overflowing on weekends. It’s been demolished and replaced. I have noticed, however, that new places seem to have outdoor seating areas where smokers can go. Will N.O. have something like that? I can’t imagine there is a lot of room for it in those old streets.

“I know a bunch of people who don’t come in here because of the smoke.”

...there’s always some a-hole like this that thinks that because 3 of his dip shit friends said “we don’t like smoke” than that’s the true gauge. Go to a different bar you little creep. Liberals want to change America to their liking, businesses to their liking, cars, everything. Once they do, there’s always something else wrong.

Wow, Bourbon Street without smoking in it’s bars. That’s going to be weird. There are cigar stores right there where you can buy your cigar to go smoke it in the bar right next door. Guess those cigar stores will be going out of business before long.

Oh well, I guess the government knows what’s best for us. Perhaps they will now work on banning alcohol in bars... </sarcasm>

This is an example of Liberal Evolution.

They started by complaining about smoking work areas.

Companies set up non-smoking and smoking break rooms.

After a while, they complained about smoking indoors.

Companies create policies that smokers were to go outside.

After a while, they complained about those smoking outside being too close to doorways and windows.

Companies/buildings banned smoking within so may feet of the building.

After a while, they complained about smoking outside, in general.

City governments in numerous locations have ‘banned’ smoking within the city limits. Some even include a ban on smoking in private residences.

==

Libs are never happy. Every thing they are ‘against’ today is only a stepping stone to the next thing they are ‘against’ tomorrow.

I wonder how many people will stop going to the bar because they can’t smoke?

I hate these laws. What is wrong with the market deciding? If you want a smoke-free bar then go to one that is. I can’t see why we can’t have both types as the alternative is that people that want to smoke have no bars to go to where they can do what they want...which I thought was related to this small concept called ‘liberty’.

I can’t imagine a bar that declares itself a non-smoking bar wouldn’t attract a good amount of customers, especially if the smokers are congregating at a smoking bar. Why can’t we allow for both?

I find it quite amusing at outdoor stadiums. Nobody smokes in the stands but outside the stands (but inside the stadium) people smoke knowing they’re “not allowed to”. You have the smoking Nazi’s walking around (their primary job) telling people to “put it out”, like they’re a LEO or something. The dynamics are interesting. The smokers quickly organize, forming a human wall of people not smoking to hide those behind them that are, then rotate. I assume before long we’ll have drones flying around and people being arrested for such criminal behavior.

I’m as anti-smoking as they come and I think smoking policy should be up to the bar/restaurant/business owner or landlord of the building.

As reported in January the time has come.

In 2015, I'm surprised there were any bars left that you could smoke in.
