In New Orleans, midnight sounded on last call for smoking. A new law just took effect banning cigarettes, cigars and other forms of tobacco smoking from all bars.
And some local residents are relieved.
This is one of the smokiest bars in town, said Steve Zweibaum, speaking to the New York Times from one local bar. I know a bunch of people who dont come in here because of the smoke. Maybe theyll come back.

Houston has banned smoking in all city parks.
Indeed. Plus...there is some phenomenal technology available for air replacement systems these days. Many establishments nationwide are installing systems that enable people to be in proximity to smokers with no problem. Expensive? Yes. But what is the cost of losing business from both smokers and non-smokers?
I’m as anti-smoking as they come and I think smoking policy should be up to the bar/restaurant/business owner or landlord of the building.
The delightful smell of barf and urine on the main streets of new Orleans.... (/s)
Now THERE is a tagline.
So, let’s say that you leased an apartment several years ago and management changes hands and the new managers want to/do “impose” a no smoking policy. Would it be the impetus for a smoker to have to move? We have a house on an acre and we don’t smoke inside the house but only in the garage or outside. Hopefully the neighbors don’t get po’d when we’re outside. :>}
When a Republican doesn’t like something, they walk away.....
When a Democrat doesn’t like something, they change the law to their way and make us all suffer.....
That’s because apparently conservatives are also masochists and we like it. Or something. :>}
In 2015, I'm surprised there were any bars left that you could smoke in.
yes!
If you don’t like smoke,don’t go to or work in a business where there are smokers. So simple a liberal should be able to understand it. But then the liberals demand everyone do exactly as the liberals wish-except of course for the liberals themselves who are always exempt from the rules.
A Democrat stay awake at night worrying that somewhere, someplace there is a person who is not doing something the way the democrat wants it done.

perhaps the real issue is sitting next to a bunch of smoking potheads ruining your evening.
“- Smoking is no longer allowed in bars, restaurants, casinos and at the fairgrounds.”
Ah, the Fairgrounds, too! Interesting timing, just in time for the start of JazzFest. I wonder how many of the tourists who come from all around the world will be caught off guard by this.
I don’t think the management should change the policy but the building owner could. In which case he would probably lose tenants for a while until he got all smoking tenants, if that’s what he wants.
If you have a choice to go to either a smoking bar or a non smoking one, the s*** is almost always going to be happening at the smoking bar. Bars, with few exceptions, are not health nut facilities.
“My son is a professional musician and I love the fact that bars ban smoking.”
Thank god! Now when he is dragged onto stage at the point of a gun he will end up being OK!
I routinely puff on cigars, and enjoy/prefer going to smoke-free bars.
Speaking of that, as part of the fare-the-well shows this summer, the Grateful Dead are now doing 2 of them at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara. No smoking throughout facility, even e-smokes. ~80,000 Deadheads in a non smoking facility, that should be interesting...
