Actually, I have a buddy who opened up a non-smoking bar in our little corner of the world. When NC passed the smoking ban in bars, he and a couple of other smoke-free bar owners were totally against it and tried in vain to stop the law from passing. He had a set clientele and was doing terrific business. A large number of his patrons passed two or three other bars to get to his non-smoking bar. Since the law was passed, they rarely see the same people twice in a month when in the past, they would see them at least once or twice per week. He's competing with all the bars in town now instead of just maybe two others within 20 miles.

Liberal wannabe-hipster douchebags go to smoky bars because they're cool, but they're uncomfortable with the smoke so they start carping about banning it, it gets banned and then they bitch that there isn't a "scene" there anymore.

If you have a choice to go to either a smoking bar or a non smoking one, the s*** is almost always going to be happening at the smoking bar. Bars, with few exceptions, are not health nut facilities.
