Brain health is the second most important component in maintaining a healthy lifestyle according to a 2014 AARP study. As people age they can experience a range of cognitive issues from decreased critical thinking to dementia and Alzheimerâs disease. Researchers write about eight nutrients that may help keep your brain in good shape.

So where’s the beer nutrient?
Fairly dry and technical; anyone with a science background care to translate this into common English...?
Obesity is the new ALZ defense. Works for me.
I don’t read anything from AARP.
Where’s the Pizza nutrient?
This post hits home. I suffered a bad brain injury eight years ago and my memory has been getting worse at a quicker pace the past year. I have tried pretty much everything on that list, but I get tired of taking everything and get depressed when I read the weak studies the claims are based on. Plus it seems to me that these may help keep a brain healthy but not heal a damaged brain eight years later. Any thoughts? I’m not a natural optimist which doesn’t help.
Eat or take these:
Chocolate
Salmon
Soy extract or cow brains
Walnuts
Soy extract supplement
Eggs
Magnesium in avocados, bananas, dark chocolate
Blueberries
Most of these are antioxidants or work to maintain nerve cell walls.
The article forgot the most important ingredient for brain function, kidney function, muscle function, circulation function, and most important, heart function. This ingredient will also prevent diabetes and obesity.
This ingredient is available in every home. It is very cheap.
I have been using this ingredient for 17 years since I retired . I am in my 70’s, never had a brain problem or kidney problem or blood sugar problem, or heart attacks, or strokes, or joint pains. Actually never had any chronic pain. Never seen inside of a hospital after my gall bladder removal in 1990. The problem is sometimes I fail to indulge in this ingredient. I feel great so why bother. Then one day I wake up feeling sluggish and feel like I gained a couple of pounds. That forces me to start taking this fabulous ingredient again. After just 3 or 4 days, I am feeling wonderful again.
Our ancestors used this ingredient in large quantities. It was even available during the stone age era. Actually our ancestors absolutely had to use this ingredient, because without it they starved to death. So you see, our bodies have inherited the genes of our ancestors. That is why this ingredient is of paramount importance for our well being.
I will post what this magic ingredient is first thing tomorrow morning in this thread. Please read my post tomorrow. It could change your life.
I have studied the beer element, it has the desired effects of instilling youthfulness and intelligence, but to date, the effects seem fleeting, only lasting hours before they wear off.
I have talked to other researchers who have had varying degrees of success in extending the beneficial effects, one says that the timing of using the beer is very important, he says that to extend the effects, consuming some beer in the morning, and maintaining a steady infusion through the day, and into the evening, can maintain the positive effects for 15 to 20 hours.
Another researcher has abandoned beer entirely and has shifted to studying Vodka, to date, he records what he believes are more consistent results. He also believes that the morning, noon, and night schedule is most effective, and has combined the vodka with vitamin c in orange juice, to what he claims is solid, verifiable results.
Beer. Then you don’t give a sh*t.
Unfortunately, most neuron damage doesn’t heal. The neurons don’t repair themselves, and new neurons don’t grow. There has been some encouraging research using various nerve growth factors to induce new nerve growth in spinal and peripheral nerve injuries, but not much progress in getting the brain to grow new cells or even just new connections to replace the ones lost.
My wife feeds me all that stuff but a little low on chocolate though I do get my Nutella treat from time to time.
I draw the line at cow brains though. I won’t eat that.
I eat none of those items except 2 fried eggs every morning.
And I feel fabulous in my mid-70’s. Please read post #10.
We have too many neurons anyway. We barely use 5% of our neurons. So it is no big deal if a few die everyday by drinking alcohol or such.

I may be gone by then.
I have not indulged in cow brains. But my parents used only mutton so goat brain curry was frequently on menu. The brain taste exactly like bone marrow.
Hang in there pardner, you ain’t going anywhere tonight.
What’s really scary is most long term studies indicate that he cascade of inflammation from the original injury continues to cause damage for decades. It is the most helpless feeling wondering at 46 what I will be like in 5 10 or 20 years.
Brain cells couldn’t reproduce like other cells or we would lose the memories of those old cells.
So what’s the verdict? Do I stuff my face with blueberries and omega 3s and every new supplement that comes on the market or just accept what is, is.
The crazy thing is, changes, some for better some for worse, keep happening eight years later. Stabbing pain all over head and they are not sure what causes that. Structural brain changes seems the most likely culprit.
