Ted Cruz starts with words of action about the Constitution
American Thinker ^ | March 28, 2015 | Mark J. Fitzgibbons

Posted on 03/28/2015 2:24:52 PM PDT by kingattax

In the year that the Magna Carta turns 800, Senator Ted Cruz began his bid for the presidency with an appropriately active, as opposed to passive, choice of words that “[i]t is a time to reclaim the Constitution of the United States.”

Conservatives frequently use the phrase “restoring the Constitution.” It is a sad enough commentary that we must restore what Founder and America’s Fourth U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Marshall referred to in Marbury v. Madison as our “fundamental and paramount law.”

Cruz’s virtuoso first act at Liberty University -- sans teleprompter -- amply demonstrated that he is a masterful wordsmith, using the precision of the lawyer that he is, yet with the flow and conviction of a preacher speaking about a higher promise.

Federalist/Anti-Federalist ping. I found this article on the Constitution and the Magna Charta to be thought provoking.

"... an appropriately active, as opposed to passive, choice of words..."

Thank you, Mr. Fitzgibbons, for that language lesson.
And I wish you well upon your expected high school graduation.

How refreshing.

Let’s see Jeb or most of the others criticize Cruz on that one.

Note to RINO’s: don’t give us any of this ‘the Constitution is a living document’ BS, a la the ‘wise latina’. We know better.

Of course, the narrative is twofold -- one, that Republicans, oops, I mean the right-wing racist Republican Party, opposes undocumented Americans' rights, just as they oppose social justice of all kinds, like same-sex marriage and LGBT rights, unilateral disarmament, and the imposition of shariah; and two, that Scott Walker/Ted Cruz/etc etc are really all about amnesty for illegals.

To the Left, “living document” is just a euphemism for “dead letter”.

Meanwhile, over in Democrat-in-all-but-name land:
Rand Paul's immigration speech
...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reform
Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...

From another article from that site:

All we have to do is scrape this administration off our shoes in 2016.

My new tagline.

Joseph Story wrote in his authoritative 1833 Commentaries that the Constitution . . . is an ordinance or establishment of government and not a compact, . . .

IOW, the people are sovereign, not Obama.

Interesting the author chooses to highlight the exact case and Chief Justice that started us down the judicial review path that’s resulted in so much mischief in the intervening 212 years and is a subject of some of the driving force behind the Article V movement.

Very interesting article by Fitzgibbons. Ted Cruz loves the Constitution, and that’s why I love Ted Cruz. That is also why so many big government Republicans hate his guts. That’s why they hated Reagan, too. Viva Cruz!

Ted joined our dinner party in Burbank after his appearance on the Jay Leno show. I got to talk to him for about five minutes about my book on returning to our Constitution. He said it made too much sense to be accepted by politicians and the press. Well, damn. But he knows and understands the Constitution. We need him as president.

May we soon return to a day when our Constitution is more than just a historical document of some peripheral interest.

Thanks for the BEEP!

I like the tagline. Scrape off our shoes, indeed! I believe we will also need an assiduous decontamination of the White House when the current tenants depart.

"Hige sceal þe heardra, heorte þe cenre / mod sceal þe mare, þe ure mægen lytlað."
"Thought must be the harder, heart be the keener / mind must be the greater, as our might lessens."
