Leonard Nimoy, who lived long and prospered, died Friday at his Los Angeles home.
The creator of Mr. Spock, televisions most beloved pointy-eared half-Vulcan, was 83 and had suffered for several years from chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), which makes it difficult to breathe.
I quit smoking 30 yrs ago, he tweeted last week. Not soon enough. I have COPD. Grandpa says, quit now!! LLAP.
LLAP was Spocks best-known catch phrase: Live long and prosper.
To many of his fans, Leonard Nimoy was a one-hit wonder.
One hit that lasted half a century.
Nimoy created the beloved Mr. Spock in the 1960s cult TV show Star Trek and brought him back to life in movies, sequels, cartoons and spinoffs for the rest of his life.

Although the "Parallel Earth" meme in TOS Season 2 was overdone,
this is
one scene you won't see anymore in contemporary Sci-Fi
(Not a bad speech for a Canuck ;-)

I guess you never read the book or saw the movie God is Real about that little kid who supposedly died and spent about 90 minutes in Heaven speaking to Jesus. Then he was brought back by the doctors. Or God helped them out...

I think Ill watch Amok Time tonight. Arlene Martel, the actress who played Spock's betrothed, died last August.

Nimoy once said in an interview, that he came up with the hand sign for LLAP from a cermemoy he witnessed a rabbi doing during temple, when he was a kid.

Yeah, notice that there were two major human elements missing in the future:
Money for individual accomplishments.
Lawfully allowed weapons in the hands of private individuals.

If Nichols passes, I guess Takai could do both parts now....

AND Robert Vaughn AND David McCallum (well, they were the stars of the show....).
I wish that TV was still that good. I might watch more of it. :-)

Don’t know. The poem mentions infantry and artillery filling their canteens, but not being able to just hang out there IIRC. In other words, kinda of a purgatory for cavalry.

Yep. The original Star Trek began airing when I was 5 years old.
Barry Obama is 2 months older than I am.
Now Generation Idiotbox has raised Generation XBox — and a postmodern rendition of Neitzche’s “Birth of Tragedy” nteractively rolls along in HD with 7.1 surround sound, and force-feedback control.

The “trouble with tribbles” had money (see bar)
also everyone had a phaser, it was just a tool. This carried through even into next gen where they botched the anglophile French picard.

A few weeks back, NCIS had a flash-back episode involving the Coroner in his youth. The lady agents were all ga-ga over how CUTE he was back then - David McCallum.
I loved it, as the Illya Kuryakin character, was a major crush for me back in the day. :)

First damn episode of Enterprise a farmer shot a Klingon with his phase rifle for trespassing on his property...and being completely justified for it.
That show and DS9 showed plenty of good rich people.
