Yeah, notice that there were two major human elements missing in the future:

Money for individual accomplishments.

Lawfully allowed weapons in the hands of private individuals.

Yep. The original Star Trek began airing when I was 5 years old.

Barry Obama is 2 months older than I am.

The “trouble with tribbles” had money (see bar)

also everyone had a phaser, it was just a tool. This carried through even into next gen where they botched the anglophile French picard.

First damn episode of Enterprise a farmer shot a Klingon with his phase rifle for trespassing on his property...and being completely justified for it.

That show and DS9 showed plenty of good rich people.
