Businesses have been fleeing the Southern Tier of upstate New York for years. Now, fifteen New York towns are looking to do something about the exodus by seceding from New York and joining Pennsylvania, according to WBNG:
The Upstate New York Towns Association is researching this very topic. The group says a few factors pushing its research are high property taxes, low sales tax revenue and the recent decision to ban hydraulic fracturing in New York.
The Southern Tier is desolate, said Conklin Town Supervisor Jim Finch (R). We have no jobs and no income. The richest resource we have is in the ground.'
Businesses started leaving for neighboring Pennsylvania when Gov. Andrew Cuomo was in the process of considering an adverse decision on fracking in New York. Now that he has decided to ban it outright, businesses are increasingly moving their wealth-generating activities elsewhere.
Broome County GOP Chairman Bijoy Datta, who grew up in Windsor (one of the towns considering secession), tells IJReview that its easy to see how this anger has built up:
These New York towns are literally a stones throw from Pennsylvania and they see the economic results of gas drilling more jobs, new roads, reduced taxes and higher property values and its just out of their reach because big government said no.
Even worse for the area, Cuomos decision on fracking was made on the same day the region was passed over for one of the casino licenses the state was giving out. Currently, there are plans to open the bidding for a casino in the Southern Tier again.
We are looking more and more like the old Soviet amalgam of eastern European states every day. “Mr Socialistas, tear down that wall!!!”
As I understand it, New York and Pennsylvania and the U.S. Congress would all have to approve a change in state boundaries.
Somehow I get the feeling that Cuomo and New York would never approve this.
Every time a group of people yearning for a better life choose to simply remove their lands away from the leadership that is keeping them unhappy, that leadership fights to keep them where they are. ‘Twas ever thus, across all cultures and continents. I hope they succeed... but the big-government lovers cannot allow it to happen.
Maybe Pennsylvania can start arming an insurgency.
Directive 10-289
Not to mention PA’s new rat governor Wolf who is as commie as any of them if not more.
It’s time for The People to take matters into their own hands. TELL government DON’T ask it.
This is a very lovely part of New York State.
.
California did that by fining you with a home tax ifyou move ut of state.
It's been like that for the last fifty years...the cancer that is New York City keeps them in shackles.
Career politics has degenerated into simply staying in office in order to live a sumptuous lifestyle. At best, it’s an oligarchy. And the oligarchs will never allow freedom seeking subjects to secede. Not in New York. Not in Kalifornistan. Not anywhere in the US. It would upset the socialist order (of those states).
Stories that include the word secession seem to be adding up.
They say that between Philly and Pittsburgh lies a big stretch of Alabammy.
Pennsylvania won’t be an improvement. The cities are just like New York City. Plus we have a Democrat commie governor and Republicans who are more liberal than Democrats
Stay away. We don’t need a third Democratic bastion. Scranton /Wilkes Barre is enough.
This is a very lovely part of New York State.....Other tan scenery, there ain’t none. Trees are everywhere.
