Some conservative political analysts have opined that former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush announced recently that he was further exploring his options to run for the GOP presidential nomination as a means of pre-empting all other potential GOP candidates. Many of the same analysts say there was an additional, not-so-subtle message, and it was aimed primarily at conservatives: Dont bother running; the monied GOP interests (i.e. the donor class) have spoken and Jeb Bush is who they want.
Over the Christmas holidays I have had a number of people ask my opinion about Bush, and what I have told them, essentially, is this: Jeb Bush, like all the Bushes, is an inherently decent man. He has been a governor of a mostly red (but sometimes purple) state. He shares lineage with a storied political family. But if the goal is to restore some semblance of constitutional government to our republic, Jeb Bush is the wrong candidate, for he like his father and brother before him is no conservative.

I believe Jeb Bush has the potential to deliver the worst electoral shellacking the GOP has seen for decades. Even, and maybe especially, against Hillary. In fact, I think Jeb could be Hillary’s insurance policy. Pardon me while I puke as the US is turned into a temple of mediocrity.
It seems that the Gope Establishment has already chosen Jeb Bush to be its honoree this cycle. The Democrat will almost surely be the next President and even if Bush were to win- he might if the Democrats screw up really badly- the march to the totalitarian ideal will only accelerate, if there is much room left to develop by Election Day 2016. After 2016, if not a little before, we shall begin to hear about Anti Social forces that must be eliminated. The term won’t be the more historical “Anti State” because anti social sounds more in line with the American experience.
They also have a hard time coordinating when there is a plethora of promising candidates, as in the lead up to 2012. The infamous circular firing squad kicked in as none were literally perfect. All that remained standing was the prince of mediocrity, that nobody bothered to shoot at because he seemed so implausible.
Bush, Romney, Christie...it’s a long list.
But no more moderates. And more important in the case of those three, no more liberals.
we got a viable conservative party - the Tea Party. Start donating and attending meetings in your area. It will grow rapidly once completely free of the GOP. Push Cruz and Palin as Pres/VP candidates. We will at least destroy the GOPe. That should be the main goal of all conservatives now. The complete and utter destruction of the “grand old party” of closested asses (dems).
I know what you’re saying, and I don’t believe in conspiracies either, but the CONSERVATIVE candidates will have to make sacrifices to win, and I mean get out of each other’s way and unite behind one guy or gal. I don’t know who that is now, but you can’t have a Newt siphoning off votes and a Cain siphoning off votes. My guess is that it will come down to Rand Paul (ugh), Marco Rubio (ugh), and Ben Carson (reservations). I could possibly vote for any of the three, but would like to see some “growth” (in the conservative sense) with Paul and Rubio ditching amnesty, Rubio picking up Paul’s concern with snooping/spying on Americans, and Carson getting his gun positions right.
Conservatives did come together in a last ditch effort to save this country. If the gop-e thinks it has beaten us, they are sadly mistaken. If they opt to nominate a BUsh or Christie, they WILL lose more than just the election. It’s high time they decided to play nice with the constitutional conservatives.
I would be highly motivated to vote for a 3rd party.
If he is nominated, I WILL VOTE, for a third party candidate that gets on the ballot. It's the best way to vote "no" against DC.
We gave the 'pubs a victory, and they now hold enough power so they could've not only stopped, but reversed, the damage Obama has done. Instead they're using it as enough rope to hang themselves.
The constant bellyaching about the nefarious GOPe and their ability to nominate middle of the road candidates is a symptom of Conservative Derangement Syndrome.[CDS]
CDS is a mental state which prevents the sufferer from counting votes and interpreting the number of votes as a factor in the popularity of a candidate.
CDS then drives the sufferer to a paranoid state where the voters are controlled by a nebulous minority called the GOPe to explain the rejection of his views and candidates by a majority of voters as expressed by the vote count.
Unfortunately that’s a lose/lose scenario.
I voted for the Constitution Party presidential candidates in 2004 & ‘08. I thought that Bush and McCain were too liberal, and I knew that he’d lose my state, Illinois.
If Jeb Bush is nominated I’ll be so angry I’ll blow a gasket.
A hemorrhagic stroke will occur in the part of my brain that recognizes the word “Republican.” After that event, whether I want to vote for Jeb Bush or not will be completely irrelevant.
I’ll be neurologically and physically unable to do so. When I read the word “Republican” or anything even remotely related to the party, I will see only blank spaces. When others speak about anything Republican, I will hear only silence.
The “Bush” name alone is a turn-off for many, despite substance.
“Should”? More like “will”.
I have a question? There are different groups within the Tea Party. Will they ever unite?
What do Freepers think of the Tea Party Express, the Tea Party Patriots and other Tea Party groups? What is the best way to unite this movement? The IRS destroyed the growth of the Tea Party, but I think the Republicans also helped to keep the party down. Also, well-meaning people tried to get involved, but didn't have organizational skills. If we really want a viable third party, we need to plan and organize.
Thanks, SunkenCiv.
I do not understand the GOPe. Do they really think they can win with Jeb Bush? Really???
If I were totally politically impartial, I would do a brief analysis and realize that without a strong conservative base turnout, no GOP candidate can beat a democrat in a national election. Additionally, I’m sorry, but the Bush name is ruined politically, at least for a generation. Therefore, logically I would need to ensure the Republican presidential candidate is strongly conservative. I would also want someone who is NOT a Bush. This is so obvious to me it becomes a natural conclusion.
The only reason I can see that such backers would continue to promote Bush is that they do not want to the Republicans to WIN the presidential election. Perhaps they are stealth democrats? How does democratic control of government help crony capitalists? There is your answer!
A lot of money gets spent during our national elections. 100’s of millions of dollars, perhaps billions. Who benefits? What do they expect to get for their money?
>>Conservatives always nominate too many candidates. Need to narrow our field.
How? One wrong statement on any of our hot-button issues disqualifies a candidate for a majority of Conservatives, but that candidate’s faithful followers will continue to help destroy all others in the hopes that their guy (or gal) will rise back up.
I agree.
In this day and age, it IS possible to ‘bolt’ immediately to another party.
We COULD put the Republicans right out of business if we were serious about it. And it wouldn’t take years and decades either.
We have ‘real-time’ technology, media, news, etc... today.
I think it’s high time we use it for OUR good.
I think I’ll start taking aspirin every day, just in case we nominate anyone who’s not exactly like Ted Cruz.
