The Obamas talked with People magazine about dealing with their "own racist experiences," as the magazine described.
Michelle Obama told one story that recently took place, even as she was first lady of the United States.
"I tell this story I mean, even as the first lady during that wonderfully publicized trip I took to Target, not highly disguised, the only person who came up to me in the store was a woman who asked me to help her take something off a shelf. Because she didn't see me as the first lady, she saw me as someone who could help her. Those kinds of things happen in life. So it isn't anything new," Michelle Obama, who is 5'11", said.
She also said that her husband, Barack Obama, was asked to get coffee when he was wearing a tux. "He was wearing a tuxedo at a black-tie dinner, and somebody asked him to get coffee," she told People.
The president told his own experiences. "There's no black male my age, who's a professional, who hasn't come out of a restaurant and is waiting for their car and somebody didn't hand them their car keys," Obama told the magazine.
Musta been what she told the cops when she was arrested for shoplifting.
who are we ...to disbelieve the word of the first shopper?.....
as far as her husband having been mistaken for a valet? with his attitude? FAT CHANCE!!
I once climbed into the refrigerated section to get the last few yogurts rather than ask anyone to do it for me.
I never knew that I was a victim of “unreachablelism”. I’m thinking of filing for disability and racism..
I have had other customers ask me for help in a store, and was glad to give it. That is what people do...
NOT Racism!
All the lady did (inept SS letting her get within First Lady’s protected space aside) was ask for help getting something she couldn’t reach.
People do that.
It’s called asking for help.
It’s not racism. At all. Even remotely.
Strange how the sociopolitical party that axiomatically compels people to help other people, has a fit when asked to led a hand themselves.
And for what it’s worth, I (Caucasian as they come) have been mistaken for floor staff at numerous retail stores (Target included) - just because I dress decently and look like I know what I’m doing.
“NO employee dresses this way at Target, this could not have happened.”
She didnt say the woman thought she worked there, just that she was asked to help. Why that is thought to be racist is unknown. If anything the evil white person obviously felt comfortable asking a large black woman for assistance rather than being afraid.
I will confess that I was in Walmart yesterday and saw a rather small female employee struggling with a heavy box on a high shelf. I offered to help get it down for her and she readily accepted and thanked me afterward. If it had been the first lady she would have gone home and reported that a macho sexist pig had belittled her.
Wow, the humanity! Old Bull Conner just let loose the dogs and fire hoses on these two losers didn’t he?
That’s pretty dang funny right there.
Walter Williams relates a similar encounter.
Here’s the People mag link. The comments are very interesting, and it really makes me wonder how he was re-elected.

So racist that either of them have never done a proper job in their communist lives.
How about when she was admitted to Princeton and Harvard?
Was race a factor there?
Just asking.
'Course, you coulda just ate your way out by climbing on top of all the empty yogurt cups.
Voter fraud.
It doesn’t sound like she was belittled at all.
If anything, she was betalled.
Whose got money for a valet? I'll go out of my way to find a parking place and save that money for myself. Must be other elitists who mistake him for a valet. Real world people try not to use valets unless handicapped.
maybe this was because she is almost 6 feet tall, not because she is black
“getcha own box of cereal, cracker!”
YOU know the answer to that question.
