The Obamas talked with People magazine about dealing with their "own racist experiences," as the magazine described.
Michelle Obama told one story that recently took place, even as she was first lady of the United States.
"I tell this story I mean, even as the first lady during that wonderfully publicized trip I took to Target, not highly disguised, the only person who came up to me in the store was a woman who asked me to help her take something off a shelf. Because she didn't see me as the first lady, she saw me as someone who could help her. Those kinds of things happen in life. So it isn't anything new," Michelle Obama, who is 5'11", said.
She also said that her husband, Barack Obama, was asked to get coffee when he was wearing a tux. "He was wearing a tuxedo at a black-tie dinner, and somebody asked him to get coffee," she told People.
The president told his own experiences. "There's no black male my age, who's a professional, who hasn't come out of a restaurant and is waiting for their car and somebody didn't hand them their car keys," Obama told the magazine.
Weird. I’ve been mistaken for store employees on multiple occasions, and I’m white. I guess those people saw my inner blackness.
I’m just a shade under 6 feet tall. I often ask short people to get things off the bottom shelf for me.
Maybe that is something you could do well. You have made a mess of America.
I’ve helped people get things off the shelf in the grocery store, but I never thought anything of it. I’m 5’6, so I am taller than some, especially older people.
“And she views someone asking her for help as racism?”
Only if the other person is white.
Actually, folks are also prejudiced against white military officers. I’ve been asked to help get things off of shelves, and I’m 3 inches shorter than the Moose. But since I’ve lived a life of white privilege, I don’t realize it is meant to demean me. Noblesse oblige, don’t you know - like the time I helped push a black woman’s car 1/4 mile off an Interstate. And I just thought it was people being nice people...
Do you suppose it was the Moose’s car I pushed? Back when they were poor, impoverished black folk, struggling to live on a 6 figure salary? I don’t think so...the lady thanked me for helping. I can’t see the Moose thanking anyone for anything.
Mooch is 5’11’ but want’s us to believe she was asked for help because she was a lowly Black Target employee.
She resented being asked to help someone other than herself, therefore: it’s racism.
More likely scenario:
Her Majesty passed a shopper who failed to bow down in obeisance.
well dressed like that, she should probably join the ‘real people of walmart’ gang
Given Barry and Michelle’s **DEMONSTRATED** competence, the only business transactions they are qualified for are being on the other side of the counter, and asking you if you want Large Fries with that. . .
I've been , mistaken for a store clerk, a waitress etc. EVERYBODY has had these experiences.
I'm so sick of black entitlement. Does Michelle think she should not have these experiences we've all had because she's black?
I’m over Michelle O’s “perceived racist” experiences.
I don’t see any difference between her and Imelda Marcos. Both are trash with uber-elevated levels of self-importance as if the world will not function without their room temperature IQ levels.
When both Obama’s are gone, the world will hardly blink or notice. I can’t wait! That day cannot come soon enough.
She should have been asked to empty her oversized purse.
This from a woman who was given a 300 thousand dollar a year job at a Chicago hospital that was so important that she wasn’t replaced after she left.
With these two, everything is seen thru race colored glasses. Everything is perceived as racism. In other words, it is all in their mind.
Now had the woman addressed her as "Your Royal Highness", kneeled and kissed her hand prior to her request, everything would have been fine.
So basically she just insulted everyone who works at Target, by implying the job is demeaning, way to go, Mooch.
Yeah, I do that all the time. Go up to random black guys in suits and hand them my car keys. I've lost more cars that way! I just can't help myself!
I wore a red shirt and khakis to Target once.
I was ordered by the Manager to do stuff.
