A protest put on by a group of second-graders in Massachusetts has sparked controversy, but the school says it was just teaching the kids a lesson in civics.
The peaceful demonstration happened on Friday, a spokesperson for the Alma del Mar Charter School in New Bedford told ABC News today. Second-graders gathered in front of the school with signs, some that said "Honk For Justice."
"A group of scholars played on the playground while other scholars held their demonstration without incident," Will Gardner, the school's executive director, said today in a statement.

Will Gardner, Founder & Executive Director
Will Gardner graduated from Wesleyan University and began his teaching career as a Teach for America corps member in Greenville, Mississippi. In Mississippi, Will served as an elementary school music teacher and later as a 3rd grade teacher in a program for students behind in reading. Following five years in Mississippi, Will returned to his home state of Massachusetts to run an out of school time site for Citizen Schools in New Bedford. While running a Citizen Schools site for middle school students, Will saw firsthand how too many students in New Bedford enter middle school unprepared to succeed at the high levels that a college track demands. At the same time, he witnessed that students can be reignited academically when challenged to do rigorous, meaningful and service-oriented work. The desire to see more students doing incredible work and to put more kids in New Bedford on the path to college led Will to complete Harvards School Leadership program and dedicate two years to creating Alma del Mar.
“Honk for Justice”?

It starts with this.....

scholars?..............
2nd graders have the knowledge and maturity to have some rational opinion about the grand jury in the Brown case??? And to feel that justice was not done based in their knowledge of our justice system, how indictments and charges of crimes are processed in our system??? Really??? I find this very hard to believe.
Brainwashing
Is there no point low enough for leftists to stoop?
teachers and parents
............calling a second grader a scholar is akin to calling Al Sharpton an “Civil Rights Leader” ...................
AMEN calling a second grader a Scholar is akin to calling AL a Revrant!
Everyone is a winner, everyone gets a trophy, and no one is better than another in the new school system, based upon the common core beliefs.
If you disagree, you are a racist homophobe.
Comrade.
Do not worry Comrade Policeman, you will have your opportunity to subjugate as well. Besides, what do you believe, that the little girl you speak of is really your daughter? Remember, once she enters the State School System, resistance against the common core of ideals is futile.

Inculcating beliefs based on lies is evil.
Will Gardner and every administration of that school needs to be put on a national list of known child abusers and injunctions applied to keep these child abusers at least 500 feet away from grade schools or gathers of more than 20 children.
Insanity. Second graders should be taught to respect police, not loot stores, and that sometimes the bad guys get shot.
We debated wether NES was better than Commodore 64 when I was in 2nd grade.
No child naturally gravitate towards a serious subject like Ferguson without some hippie teacher prompting them hard.
The 2nd graders are more mature than your average Marxist.
Pray America is waking
“Arrest the faculty for child abuse.
Is there no point low enough for leftists to stoop?”
Agreed!
Second grade has NOTHING to do with government. Government is way above the understanding of a 7-year old student.
