Texas Senator Ted Cruz is reminding Americans that no civilized nation should ever torture prisoners.
Torture is wrong, unambiguously. Period. The end. Civilized nations do not engage in torture and Congress has rightly acted to make absolutely clear that the United States will not engage in torture, Cruz said during the Q-and-A portion of a speech at the Heritage Foundation.

Everything you said was very well said and absolutely spot on. I hope you are able to explain the realities of things to Senator Ted Cruz. If what he said was accurately reported and those are indeed his sentiments, this is his “Oops” moment. He really needs to make this right and get clear on the matter. Your quote from the Talmud is an eye-opener for those willing to see the truth.
First silly wrong thing I can recall him saying
I want a POTUS that will do whatever it takes to PREVAIL and eliminate America's enemies.
Wouldn't Dick Cheney say the same damn thing up to Sep 10th, 2001?
That's is EXACTLY why they will not call "Enhance Interrogation", "Torture".
oooops, that hurt Cruz a lot. I guess he wouldn’t torture anyone if his kids were kidnapped by ISIS.
His full comments were a lot more balanced.
Perhaps, but waterboarding makes you THINK you are going to die. You don’t actually die. You are not actually physically hurt. So, you get all the benefits of “torture” without the actual “torture” part.
Get it?
Good stuff, waterboarding.
Good thing we don’t do it then. You want to see torture, look at Klaus Barbie.
Well said ‘fork but you are not gonna get thru to some. Just not gonna be able to do it.
I’ll go beyond that, torture is evil. So is incinerating civilians. But Christian nations long ago learned that in the fallen world, one has to wage war, and to wage war one must do evil things. We Orthodox have canonical penances not just for murder (life-long excommunication with communion on the death-bed only), but for killing in war (three years excommunication — with communion on the death-bed if one is dying within that period), because choosing the lesser evil is still choosing an evil.
I fault neither Bush nor Bush’s CIA, neither Truman nor Truman’s Air Force.
Bull Shiite.
Those crazy bastards, to a man, believe we kill babies and drink their blood before we go into battle.
This new DiFi report and all previous reports serve only the rabid interests of THE COMMUNISTS and AMERICA HATERS in the USA.
That’s is EXACTLY why they will not call “Enhance Interrogation”, “Torture”.
Thank you for that moment of clarity on the topic.
Next question...define torture in a meaningful way.
Cruz should have parsed his words more carefully but do you expect to agree with this guy one hundred percent of the time? Oh, I know the pure conservative Freeper wing is flipping out on this one. Relax. He’s not selling out on amnesty or the budget and this is not the first or last time our side is going to disagree with him. On this issue he’s wrong so let’s move on.
The problem is that he gave them a soundbite. If he wants to be seriously considered as a presidential candidate, he’s got to be more careful.
Frankly, this has been my main reservation about Cruz all along. He just sort of “says things” sometimes.
I swear I could think of a dozen ways to make people talk if I wanted. Water boarding is kids stuff.
President Bush said we don’t “Torture” Prisoners just as Senator Cruz just did.
It is obvious that we don’t think Waterboarding is Torture, but Democrats and Liberals do.
Senator Cruz did not define Torture, he just stated a fact.
I find it amusing how some here pounce on Senator Cruz, probably the last Politician we have who cares what is happening to our Country, without having any idea exactly what the Senator meant by his comment.
I guess we should add a sentence to the Free Republic Mission Statement, “we support Torture”. Yeah, that works.
Have you ever heard of Al Quaeda or ISIS engaging in water boarding? Far too mild, not torture. Torture leaves scars and broken bones.
Exactly. As with all debate, the definition of terms is crucial.
I'm with Cruz on this one. I am against torture, but I don't consider water-boarding to be torture.
I wonder about you, Bettyprob. Do you have magic green eyes and fit into a size 36 B Bikini? Show us a picture of you, who signed up 9-15-14.
He and I disagree on this point.
