Hi Publius!
((((HUGS))))
I feel like the Queen of the Luthiers Tonight.
I was so scared to work on the Vintage Gibson, and SO careful to do the right thing, to only replace essential parts with fabricated rosewood replacement parts that were closest to the original (which are now unattainable), using only pure olive oil on the fretboard, and filling the scratches in the finish by matching the paint and applying it with a toothpick. I cleaned between all the frets, installed the new parts, and let each new installation sit for a day before adding the strings. Then the strings had to be installed, and slowly brought up to pitch, allowed to rest, and tuned again. The tuning pegs were very old, but I didn’t want to replace them, in order to maintain the integrity of the Vintage Gibson look. So I cleaned and polished them instead.
I cleaned the potentiometers and knobs so that they turned freely without that dusty crackle.
I also did some research and was able to give an unofficial appraisal of between $1200 and $1800 for the finished guitar.
Finally, the strings all installed and tuned to a digital tuner, I plugged it into a Peavey 150 Watt Amp and cranked it. it was one of the sweetest sounding guitars I have ever played.
The customer paid the bill and gave me a $75.00 tip on top of that!
I feel SO validated! :-)
Hi Kathy (hugs)
For the past week, Central Indiana has had temps like we get in mid-January. Some snow, too. The ponds are freezing over. We’re getting the winters we got back in the 70s.
No snow in Alaska yet? Is it still cold?
Thank you, Dear FRiend! :-)
Yea!!!!!
First time for the silver!
Good evening, Kathy. Hope you’re staying warm. Bitter cold here, but staying warm.

Ok....Henkster is silver & I’m just happy to be here...LOL
Geez Henkster, she (Kathy) won’t even take credit where credit is due! :)
You have progressed past apprentice and journeyman (journeywoman) to master (or mistress) luthier.
...using only pure olive oil...
Um-m-m-m-m, you're making me hungry.
Thanks Acad for the “dose”! *Hugs*
Good evening, Publius, and thank you for tonight’s “musical sanity” tune. ((HUGS))
It was M-L who turned me on to the idea. Musical sanity is a good thing these days.
Good evening, Ms Feather...*hugs*
Stay warm!!
We still are without snow, it is DARK, and it’s 30 right now, on its way to 36 in the next few hours.
I want temps a in the low 20s and snow! We are having rain and ice cycles right now....a deadly combination just getting to the car in the parking lot.
I ain’t nobody’s mistress! LOL!
Someone had recommended lemon oil, but I have used pure virgin olive oil on rosewood and mahogany, and I think it sinks in better and has a nicer finish.
If you don’t mind your guitar smelling like a Greek Salad! LOL!
And wouldn’t you know, I just happened to have a hard-shell case that was exactly the right size!
I had recently lost a few customers because of my conservative BIG MOUTH, and I have been hurting for money, so this really helped.
And, yes, I will continue having a conservative BIG MOUTH. I am what I am, and that’s all that I am, says St. Paul and Popeye the sailor man.
may I suggest Sinatra’s rendition of “Just In Time” from “Bells are Ringing”
One of my favorite silly old musicals...and it’s about Classical Music (among other things!)
Bet you miss her when it’s not Maddi day. :)
Good evening, Mayor, and thank you for today’s sustenance for body and soul.
Are you ok? More snow? You still have internet!!
